Samurai Rides: Holiday Gift Giving With the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

Samurai Rides: Holiday Gift Giving With the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

#Hyundai

It’s my favorite time of year and with everything that is going on in this nation the ability to step back and enjoy a little personal time is much appreciated. My recent time behind the wheel of the Hyundai Sonata was pretty impressive and this time around I upgraded in size to try out the Hyundai Sante Fe Sport. I have an affinity for larger cars so this was right up my alley.  Plus the added truck space would be needed as I knocked out my gift buying for those stateside and back in Antigua.

The Santa Fe Sport handles amazingly well for such a large car and its Driver Selectable Steering Mode affords the options of 3 different steering modes for added preference. As I’ve expressed before the sound system is essential and the Sante Fe comes equipped with the Infinity Logic 7 Surround Sound Audio system.  Not just was there ample power for the music but multiple Aux jacks and Bluetooth connectivity allowed me to pull tunes from a number of sources. With the cold weather officially here the individual seat heating functions were put to great use.

With my gift list in hand and discount assistance from a friend I made a run to the nearby outlet mall for some seasonal shopping and an opportunity to clear my head for an afternoon.

Hyundai

Hyundai has provided me some quality on road action. First with their Sonata and now with the Santa Fe Sport. If you’re looking for a quality ride at a nice price this is it.  Balancing affordability with more luxury comforts then you’d expect, this sport would be a nice addition to your life in the new year.

In the city that never sleeps its easy for time to fly by and you don’t even notice everything that is happening around you. People come and go and everything keeps on moving but within the hustle of the Big Apple there is some thing that has proven to be a constant in quality and dependability. The Captain, Derek Jeter, the shortstop of the New York Yankees has given just under 2 decades of world class excellence on and off the field in the legendary pinstripes. As his final season approaches it’s end, the good people at Modell’s are doing their part to help Jeter fans show their support to Mr November.

The Yankees and Modell’s have a lot in common. The biggest thing is the legacy of excellence they both have within their fields. Both organizations have over 110 yrs under their respective belts so the concept of appreciation over time is second nature to both the Yankees and Modells. NY sports are a part of the city’s life blood. I can remember so many Yankee memories of post season magic and while many faces rotated around him, Jeter has always been there as the spark through it all. I just had to take a moment to rep for the greatest Bronx Bomber of my era by heading over to my new local Modell’s and picking up a “Thank You” piece for #2. The staff was eager to help as they ushered me over the Yankees dedicated area. I saw a number of shirts and the classic Yankee pinstripe home uniform with the commemorative Jeter logo on the sleeve.

Jeter has always been about the team first so its interesting to see so much Yankees material tailored to him. It’s a fitting tribute to the man that gave it all while never chasing the limelight that so many others do anything for. In the midst of controversy and scandal that at times has touched other Yankee players, Jeter managed to stay above the nonsense in the media capital of America for 18 successful years. The records, awards and championships only tell a portion of the story of what Jeter has meant to New York. #CollectiveBias has always stood in support of the sports franchises of NY and none rival the Pinstripes. Salute to the captain and “Thank You.”

We’re preparing to enter one of my favorite times of the year. The Christmas season with its carols, lights, company holiday parties and gift giving always puts me in a festive mood. With that being said, for many this season also presents the issue of shopping which can be pleasure or pain depending on how you go about it. Well let me give a suggestion. For your decorations, ornaments, cards and more do what I’m doing and make DR Gifts and DR seasonal items the core of your shopping plans.

For my first official Christmas shopping venture I set out to knock a few items off my Holiday “To Do” list. The first item essentially greeted me as I entered Duane Reade. Gift wrapping paper with a nice selection of designs and priced great for the budget I set. I’m someone who actually likes wrapping gifts so this is a serious purchase for me.  Next I came across candy canes but not just your standard red and white striped variety but new Jolly Rancher, Hersey and Rainbow flavors. I’m giving the Jolly Ranchers a try first. Candy canes may be the most versatile Holiday item as it can be a treat, a stocking stuffer or a decorative addition to a Christmas  tree. I haven’t had a full-sized tree in my home in years now but I usually grab a smaller one to personally decorate. Duane Reade Holiday accessories had everything I need for the tree including the snow blanket to cover the surrounding base. I’m knocking this list out with my eyes closed.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve looked forward to various work holiday events and secret Santa gift exchanges. Yeah the free food and drink is always a plus in my book but it’s a fun personal mission to see what you can do with the $20-$30 cap most companies put on gifts. A lot of the people I work with are travelers so I knew that was the gift angle I would be looking for. As always there are DR gifts for exactly what I want. International outlet adapters, travel pillows and even a travel sized iron via GoGlobal.  Mission accomplished and truthfully I’ll need to come back for a travel iron of my own. Wrinkled clothing is a serious pet peeve of mine.

Now if you’re in a situation of looking for gifts for someone whose interests you don’t know Duane Reade has that covered too. You can never fail with a holiday card and gift card. Put the shopping selection in the recipients  hands.

As much as this is a time for lighthearted pleasures and joyful exchanges, the preparation for the season means a lot. Many people find themselves easily frustrated with what to get and where to get it that doesn’t have them battling hordes of shoppers. This is a very stressful time for many and what I truly appreciate about Duane Reade is that while you go about your business you don’t have to twist your schedule to make it into a shopping mall before 9pm. With 24 hour stores all over the city you can pick up your needed items at your own convenience. Take your time. Enjoy the season and the process of preparing for celebration. Happy #DRHoliday shopping!!

Macys Launches New NYC Men’s Store

Macys Launches New NYC Men’s Store – #MacysMensNYC

Macys

Let’s be honest. When you first mention shopping to me I think of women. Women statistically spend more time and money and understandably retailers put more focus on the female shopper to get them in those stores as often as possible. It was because of this that I was pleasantly surprised when I received an invite to the opening of Macy’s new men’s store in Herald’s Square. This wasn’t just a simple store opening with a few discounts sprinkled around. Teamed up with GQ magazine Macy’s threw a full on men’s geared event with live models (which the ladies enjoyed), DJ provided music, open bar, grooming stations and more. It was one of the best major retail events I’ve ever been to.

The event kicked off at 6:30pm so it was perfectly timed for that after work crowd to do a little shopping and relax a bit. I helped myself to a few screwdrivers (orange juice and vodka) while browsing the store. The Holiday shopping season is already in effect and I saw a number of things I’ll be returning to Macys to pick up. What really sold me on the night were the men’s specialized stations placed throughout the store via GQ mag. If you’re a men of the old school mind-set that certain levels of grooming are not “manly” then this event wasn’t for you. There were areas for eyebrow grooming and manicure work which had the longest lines all night. Along with that there was a tie tying professional giving tutorials on various knots and a live cigar roller as well. I helped myself to 2 fresh cigars courtesy of Cigar Flavors and I stopped to get a much needed manicure done.

They don’t happen that often but events like this are great and equally needed to let men know their enjoyment as well as their money is appreciated. Something I heard many times last night was other women saying how nice it was to have a retail experience they could share with a guy.

Salute to Macy and GQ magazine for this and I’d definitely direct folk to check out the Herald’s Square Macys men’s store for themselves. For more images from the night visit my Google + album and make sure you follow me on Twitter at @Trueomeganexus.
