NMDN Conference Returns / Nomadness 5th Year Anniversary

cspshjyxyaackhw

Many things come with the end of September. In those final days we see the official end of Summer, Football season hits the 1st quarter mark and the Tribe of Nomadness flocks to New York City for its annual celebration and newly launched business conference. This year The NMDN Conference enters year 2 while the overall Nomadness movements hits its 5th year of existence. Having been here from the beginning it’s an interesting time to reflect back on humble beginnings and where Nomadness presently is.

We were again blessed with perfect weather for the final weekend of September. With Nature doing her part, NMDN set up commenced that Friday with decorations, displays, accessories and more being delivered to the venue. As is generally the case I secured the adult beverages for the big night. There is no truer sign of an official Nomadness event then me navigating a city with a ride full of libations.

5 years of Tribe…… Its that time of year! #Nomadness

As preparations were being finalized, our Nomadness family started to make its way into the city. Wrapped around the actual events of the weekend, Tribe held meet ups, brunches and various smaller gatherings all in the name of Nomadness fellowship.

I can’t help but think of all that has taken place since the 1st 100 members. The faces that have come and gone, the events, trips and bonds made. Not to mention those broken. From a small digital collective has come global acknowledgement, media recognition and a reach that literally spans the planet. It can all be a bit humbling at times. I watch it all from a unique position. High Council, Best Friend, Guardian…..I have various titles, many roles I’ve played but all of them stand in support of the Tribe. I know I saw something in this group early on but I’d be lying to say I saw all that it has become and all it would come to mean to me and so many others.

Now Nomadness functions as a global resource for current and future generations of Urban travelers. From international business inquiries, to medical info, on the ground local knowledge of cities and towns, media connections across continents, Nomadness has grown into a position of being the stand out network for our people’s traveling needs. Along the way, the Tribe has steadily been the incubator to so many other travel groups and collectives that it’s value can not be measured solely in its own accomplishments but in the over reaching growth of many others.

NMDN in 2016 showed major signs and growth and maturity as it took on a more serious travel tone then the previous year, as much more sensitive topics were brought forward to the various panels. #BlackLivesMatter, LGBTQ Travel & 911 Travel Info were just some of the topics that stood out at the conference. Powerhouse personalities like Necole Kane & YK Hong were among our guests speakers. Helping to pull things together appearance wise, hosting/lodging giant AirBNB was one of the top sponsors which included a couple of specialty AirBNB lounges furnished by Best Home Fashion.

There were a lot of moving  parts both physically and logistically but I mus say that from behind the scenes, one of the biggest things I noticed was just how seamless the day went in transitioning from panel to panel. After doing this the first time there was definitely a sense of calm as the event proceeded along. The guest panelists enjoyed their time on our stages. The attendees networked while taking in vital info. Plus they received a first look into the upcoming Nomadness mobile app.

That smooth flowing vibe would carry over into the evening Anniversary party were even more Nomadness members from around the world came through to toast to another year of travel. As our Tribe family danced to the tunes of DJ Likwid and cheered on the recipients of the annual Nomadness awards, they were also treated to a few surprises via event sponsor GOPRO.

Half  way into a decade and Nomadness is showing little sign of slowing down. With new initiatives, services and products lined up to add even more value to the growing international network, year 6 is shaping up to be its biggest one yet.

I’ve witnessed what started with a small hookah lounge meet up grow into worldwide force that as I type this has taken over a full town in Hungary. There is definitely a lot to celebrate. Most importantly is the ability to connect and enjoy life with our peers from around the world.

Check a few of the party images below and stay locked in for everything Nomadness has on deck.

SAMURAI RIDES: NOMADNESS ANNIVERSARY WEEK WITH THE 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS

SAMURAI RIDES: NOMADNESS ANNIVERSARY WEEK WITH THE 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS

2015GENESIS1

This is a very special edition of Samurai Rides. This marks the official 1 yr anniversary of my coverage of the newest automobiles to hit the street from many of your trusted brands. It’s fitting that this anniversary coincides with the Nomadness Anniversary weekend. Much of my Samurai Ride travel links into my Nomadness duties so it’s only right to celebrate the two! This year leading into the massive weekend I was blessed with the Hyundai Genesis to make my way around the busy street of New York.

With the UN, Beyonce and most notably the Pope in town, I was about to really put the Genesis to the test. Hyundai has again succeeded in delivering style, performance and luxury in a super affordable package. The genesis rides smooth and handles amazingly on the open road or in stop-and-go rush hour traffic.

THE STORY OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA SAMURAI – OVERSEAS SAMURAI FROM NY TO DUBAI #UAETAKEOVER

THE STORY OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA SAMURAI – OVERSEAS SAMURAI FROM NY TO DUBAI #UAETAKEOVER

#UAETAKEOVER

It started out as a cute name to show my affinity for the Internet and Social Media. Now it is my calling card and the key to new opportunity and business. Closing out the Summer of 2015 I took another step toward growing the brand that is the Social Media Samurai. The United Arab Emirates became the latest venture as my digital skills would take me across the globe for the first time ever.  I make things connect and this time the benefits were first class or in this case, business class.

Even as I type this more thirty thousand miles above the earth I can’t help but reflect on what has gotten me here and what it will take to push me further. This is not an end goal but rather a new beginning to prove what I’m capable of.

Working In The Sky

Since January of this year members of my Nomadness Tribe have visited the amazing cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai due to the infamous #GlitchGate flight sale of Christmas morning 2014. Even though neither was on my personal radar, I too took advantage of the amazing opportunity. While still half asleep I cashed in on a $220 round trip ticket and booked it for nearly 9 months down the road. My random scheduling would turn out to be a major professional  come up for both myself and the Tribe, IF I held up my end of the bargain.

Wine Induced Thoughts In The Air

Let’s call it a real life test of the methods I’ve preached for so long. I am an advocate for the power of social media and its ability to free people from the shackles of stationary employment. Location independence is the name of the game. Yet, it’s one thing to be based out of New York and bounce up and down the East Coast. The scenery changes but my mobile plan is constant, wifi is easy to locate and the time zone is the same. Even if business takes me to the west coast were only looking at 3 hours of difference. It is an adjustment but not a difficult one. When you aim high life will make you show and prove. In this case it was facilitating contacts with international partners in a foreign land with limited wifi, no cellular service and 100+ community members creating social content in real-time that I needed to funnel towards the proper channels. All of this happening while being 8 hours ahead of my New York base. Thankfully multitasking is what I do. Yet I thrive to do it better. Progress is never ending.

Dubai Yacht Dance Off Tribe Vs Crew!!!!!

This trip was equal parts leisure and learning. From yacht to rootop I was on call for my people.  Although as I look back on it I literally had NO time to myself the end results made it well worth it.

YPlMxOpPknKBZlqsapDeMcwBC795G1alZohz1G3igkwajxeA3r39SRKhJMvWVwuoIIuLidhDEeM64EQ_ti0KkY

Lessons were learned about what I can do and what I can improve. I’m returning home a far more skilled Samurai. The wow factor of this trip will fade. The interest people have in my business class upgrades will pass, but the connections and business ties if properly managed can go so much farther. For Nomadness and myself I had no choice but to perform. No one else was there but me to keep the brand’s name in good standing. Sometimes you have to just put yourself out there.

In regards to Nomadness I made a promise to myself and my partners. I would not truly consider myself a Nomad within the Tribe I crossed the Atlantic. This venture was my stepping up into those ranks. Growth doesn’t stop once you leave school. Life is a class with no set graduation date and predesignated syllabus.  I’m going to savor passing this latest test as I prepare for what is to come.

Enter Nomadness: The Week The World Got Put On

Enter Nomadness:

The Week The World Got Put On.

Tribe Hoody2I’m usually not one to speak in grandiose fashion about anything. Stay humble and build has always been my motto. When I’m off to the side watching the people enjoy the annual Nomadness BBQ that’s what I do. I silently appreciate and reflect. Yet I didn’t fully grasp what that lighthearted weekend was going to lead into. Understand that from the position of managing Nomadness and seeing both the outer and inner workings of the community and the brand, you work and push for the moment when others “get it”. You seek the point where it clicks outside of the immediate numbers that caught on and adopted it early.  I believe we have reached that point.

I generally work behind the scenes. I’m not here to be seen and shouted out. I genuinely want to see my Tribe happy and that’s it. There is one aspect of Nomadness I take personal pride and ownership in and that’s the annual summer BBQ. What started as a simple idea to link up and chill back in 2012 has steadily evolved into one of the most anticipated events of the year within Nomadness.

#NomadnessBBQ

This year was definitely the most ambitious year yet as we incorporated a number of new elements into the mix. Like most things that come up from a grass-roots foundation we had a few issues to over come and the blazing heat of that summer day didn’t exactly help. Yet every person I greeted or who introduced themselves to me was happy. There were smiles, kisses and hugs throughout the entire event. The spirit of family was so strong that from this year forth the annual summer BBQ will now be known as the Annual Nomadness Family Reunion.

Everyone Needs A #MonthofMe

Everyone needs a #MonthofMe

#MonthofMe

They call it Pisces season, the final days of winter and the ushering in of spring. For me it’s my Birthday month and a period that for the past few years I’ve labeled the #MonthofMe. Initially this was just a cute way to indulge in Birthday celebration antics well beyond the usual few days most people give towards their special day. With time this has evolved into much more then reason to drink & socialize more although that does happen. It’s really become a space for me to sit down look at myself and examine who I am, what I stand for and am I doing what I need to do to move towards where I want to be. It’s also I time that I stop and look at those around me and measure the input and output of energies between us.

As my personal new year begins I’m now 34. Surprisingly a number of folk don’t believe this so I’m happy for that but in all seriousness there is another phase of life I want to enter and everything I do now has to result in preparing for that. I’m in no rush for a family but there is an increasing awareness to that end goal related to the work I’m doing now as I chart my course in life. There are mountains I need to get past and goals I need to reach. Recent interactions with specific people have really shown me a lot about myself regarding my mental and emotion ability to adapt to situations.

In addition I’m grasping and understanding certain powers and forces that I need to be careful with in how I apply them. It’s all pretty trippy to be honest. I’m a long way from that skinny shy kid with glass back in Jefferson Elementary School.

I honestly think the #MonthofMe concept should be embraced by all. Stop for a moment and think to the last time you worried solely about yourself. Not in a selfish manner but when was the last time you got up and said today will be all about me? We get so caught up in the rat race that we can go massive lengths of time with treating ourselves. I’m a reformed member of #TeamNoSleep. Be clear that that lifestyle will kill you eventually.  Embrace rest, embrace stillness and quiet. Build it into your schedule and lock it in as you would any other vital meeting or appointment.

When the #MonthofMe ends I ideally want to be refreshed in myself, my direction and my relationships. My 30’s have injected new life into me that I didn’t expect in the form of Nomadness. The way the Tribe randomly reaches out with words and expressions of love and support is something I often struggle to put into words. I’m truly not worthy. There have been others to step up and in their own ways earn a special place with me. There are people who I’ve known for years that I want to link back up with. I need and want to know where I stand with those that matter to me. Spring cleaning is another element of the #MonthofMe

Call it what you want but I truly hope you all invest the same time and energy for yourselves that the world asks of you for so many other things. You all deserve it/ Not just for a month but life. Get back to putting you at the front of the line.

Nomadness Travel Tribe Faces Heartbreak in Panama. *Support Needed*

Nomadness Travel Tribe Faces Heartbreak in Panama.

*Support Needed*

NMDN Solidarity

The essence of the Nomadness Travel Tribe is to live life to the fullest. That may be visiting every state in the U.S or visiting every continent on Earth. The Tribe never stops, it never pauses. We are everywhere and always on the move. Our members live life to the fullest. This past weekend, Friday to be exact,  tragedy stroke as an auto accident in  Panama claimed the lives of two of our beloved members while injuring others.

The past 72 hours has been non stop coordinated action from Nomadness High Council at home and on the ground in Panama. Nomadness members from around the world have started to rally support to collect funds towards medical expenses, travel needs and more. The following is an official statement from Evita Robinson creator of the Nomadness Travel Tribe regarding the tragic events of this past weekend

This past Friday afternoon there was a fatal van accident in Panama, with over ten Nomadness Travel Tribe members affected. We have two known member fatalities, a number of members still in the hospital, as well as many survivors who have been routed back to the States already. Our Founder and other members of High Council have flown into Panama City to work with the wounded and help get families of victims into the country. We are asking, please, to donate anything you can to help this effort. Yesterday we raised approaching $30,000 and we still need more as we learn about hospital costs for a number of members.

You can send donations via Paypal.com to the email address nomadnessx@gmail.com and put a notation stating: PANAMA SUPPORT with the donation.

We need and appreciate all positive vibes. #nomadness

Nomadness Creator Evita Robinson Announces #NMDN Conference

Nomadness Creator Evita Robinson Announces #NMDN Conference

Nomadness

For the past 3+ years there’s been a force bubbling on these Internets within the often over looked Urban Travel community. The name Nomadness has quickly come up as representative to an exclusive and close-knit collective of travel professionals, entrepreneurs and nomadic creatives under the watch of Ms Evita Robinson.  As a member and overseeing component of Nomadness I’ve seen first hand the growth and reach of this community and it comes as no shock to me that now the general public is starting to catch on.

Nomadness

This past Sunday by way of Television on Arise TV and Internet via The Daily Beast, Evita Robinson dropped the official announcement of the #NMDN Conference 2015. Evita describes #NMDN, the Nomadness ALTERnative Travel Conference, as a product of necessity. The “3 time expat” shares the frustration of many within the Urban Travel world that current travel events and conferences lack a serious level of diversity in regards to gender, ethnicity, age and culture. Similarly to how she gave birth to Nomadness to fill a gaping hole in her world so too does #NMDN rise up to provide a unique platform to those that are true embodiments of the Travel lifestyle. #NMDN will be a home to those that exist out of the box that is mainstream society’s view of what a traveler is.

While details are limited for now, in an exclusive message to the Tribe Evita did mention that the aim is for #NMDN to coincide with Nomadness Tribe Anniversary Weekend which is the final weekend of Sept. Those that have attended Tribe functions or seen events that Evita has spoken at know there is an unconventional element to the way things are done. It’s made to be expressive, loud and fun. It’s the polar opposite to the usual conservative “business class” environments that often are the norm for conferences. You can expect #NMDN to have a flair and an energy representative of the Urban Hip Hop culture that Nomadness was spawned from.

Stay tuned to the Nomadness social media accounts @NomadnessTribe on IG & Twitter. Also subscribe to NMDNconference.com to be first to get the official info on this game changing event.

Nomadness Travel Tribe Invades NYC To Celebrates 3rd Anniversary

Nomadness Travel Tribe Invades NYC To Celebrates 3rd Anniversary

Nomadness

This past weekend over 200+ world travelers converged on New York City for the Nomadness Tribe Anniversary Weekend. Arriving from all areas of the U.S, Europe, South America and more, Tribe members came to celebrate the annual gathering of this new age social collective. With just under 9000 members worldwide it’s been amazing and at times overwhelming to be on the ground level and directly involved in keeping things together. It’s one thing to attend an event. It’s a completely different matter organizing and putting the event together.

I’m thankful that the good folk at Kia via DriveSTI put me behind the wheel of the new #KiaSorento because the space was definitely needed. The running around, stress and energy that went into this years gathering was something else but it was a small price to pay for the enjoyment of the Tribe. From getting the Venue to Music to Drinks there is a behind-the-scenes story to everything that few will ever know. Yet, when it was all said and done I’d do it all over again. Well, most of it.

Read more after the jump and see some of the beautiful images from the weekend’s festivities.

Entrepreneurs Don’t Let Dollars Define Their Professional Worth or Limit Opportunity

Entrepreneurs Don’t Let Dollars Define Their Professional Worth or Limit Opportunity

Entrepreneurs

Summer is moving farther and farther into the rear view mirror and as I line up my plans and goals for the upcoming Fall season I want to share some of what I’ve discussed with other entrepreneurs in my circle who are building indie businesses and trending away from the classic work model. I mentioned earlier this year about my journey of transitioning from the standard 9 to 5 work frame to a more location independent free-flowing set up. The process is still under way and the financial shifts are still a sensitive area. Yet in the midst of that I’ve managed to negotiate more domestic travel this season then at any point in my life. Just yesterday my friend asked how did you do it? So let me tell you how.

It’s a 2 part action plan. It’s a give and take in a way. We are often trained to think travel just like any other service has a monetary value and that the only way to enjoy that service is to pay. Payment is just another way to exchange value. That is how you need to look at more of your transactions. How can I provide enough value to validate getting what I want. Businesses and brands have more leeway for compromise then we think. Often times its simply a matter of asking for it.

Presenting a history of social media content creation, growing reach and my role within the global travel collective Nomadness creates a position ripe for discussion of what I can do for others. Megabus.com has been a joy to work with especially as I’ve already been a happy user of the service for years. That same make up is what has led to me getting access to a number of events, festivals and conventions to continue creating and sharing info across the Internets. Stop for a moment and lets look at just how much $$ I’ve saved employing this method. Here’s an example. In June I covered the Toronto based festival NXNE with all access.

Transportation= MegaBus Approx $100 ( RT Flight $200 )

Access = VIP Pass $150

Room & Board = Hotels $600+

By aligning myself with Megabus.com, covering the NXNE event for media and staying with family or friends I saved nearly $1000 on this one trip. That is how I look at my goals and how I break them down. What can I provide them to make this more manageable for me? While having a cash flow still in flux for the up and down nature of my work this is a major skill to comfortable utilizing. Look at what you want and see if it aligns directly with what you do and try to make that first connection. It may not send you anywhere at first. Maybe it’s a partnership with a local business or another entrepreneur? What ever it is it’s a start but understand that it can be done, so create your plan of attack and execute!
