SAMURAI RIDES: DADDY TIME W/ MAX & THE 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED

coverimage2017

I’m always excited to get a look into the newest wheels that are coming to the people. Along with that, being able to share various aspects of my world is great. Now as I navigate the roads of Fatherhood, it makes my #SamurauRide features that much more special when I can share my son in the story. #DigitalDaddy duties got some help this time around from the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. Keeping in the realm of crossover SUVs check out this latest from Hyundai!

A photo posted by nightfall914 (@nightfall914) on

The 2015 Santa Fe Sport was my Christmas shopping companion 2 years ago and made a great impression on me. Now getting behind the wheel of the 2017 Limited Edition it felt very familiar and keeps all the features I’ve come to expect from Hyundai’s SUV/Crossover series of vehicles. The Santa Fe is the largest ride within the series. Yet, to be honest with you, in terms of space the Tuscon is equally spacious. The Sante Fe Limited does add a few upgraded elements that really set it apart that I’ll get into shortly.

After a busy week catching up with family and handling major business in New York I returned to Philadelphia to see my son. October is here and while it is officially the Fall season, nature still appears to have a few good weather days left in her. What this means is a great opportunity to hit the city and enjoy some Daddy/Son time.

The level of trust needed in a vehicle and the attention to detail skyrockets once you’re joined by your child. Hyundai’s 2017 Santa Fe is incredibly roomy  for myself as the driver and Max with his car seat. The seat belts and fasteners held him in very firm as we hit the road. Also, the Limited edition Sante Fe gives you 2nd row captain chairs vs your standard passenger bench. With this upgrade Max’s car seat locks that much more firmly into his individual seat with more fear of sliding or shifting.

No shortage of space in the 2016 Santa Fe! #SamuraiRides
No shortage of space in the 2016 Santa Fe! Now let me get Max and his car seat in here. #SamuraiRides

Once Max is good I can take in the rest of the Santa Fe. The large touch screen, audio system, Bluetooth integration, safety alerts, panoramic sun roof and more are all there. Small but vital additions that really impressed me were the number of charging posts in this ride. Seeing a rear 3rd row usb charger was heaven in my eyes. As a social media manager there is time I need to just plug something(s) in and let it charge for the duration of a ride. The front ports are usually engaged with my phone so and 2nd and 3rd row options are clutch.

Hyundai continues to stand out with its progressive SUV Crossovers.

I’ve always been impressed with how a ride that seats 7 handles as well as this does. I always remember the feel of my old Ford Expedition. It wasn’t a bad feeling, but you knew you were driving a legit truck so you had to handle it a little different. The Santa Fe could have you forgetting the type of car it actually is with how smooth it rides. Smooth enough that it put Max right to sleep in his seat.

This is the Maximus stamp of approval for automotive comfort.

While Max catches up on some shut-eye, let me share a some images with you from my most recent time with Hyundai.

For me,, the appeal of crossovers comes from the vehicle ability to be everything you need in any season. Speed and agility for the Summer gives way to size, power and durability for the winter. It can be packed full of riders for a night out, empty so you can enjoy a mind clearing cruise alone or get you around town w/ your child as you run errands. No matter the mission the Santa Fe serves you well.

Hop over to the Hyundai site for more details on the Santa Fe and all it has to offer.

SAMURAI RIDES: WELCOME TO DC WITH THE 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA – BLACK WEBLOG AWARDS

SAMURAI RIDES: WELCOME TO DC WITH THE 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA – BLACK WEBLOG AWARDS

HyunaiSonataInDCTITLE

July marks one of the more active months for me. Besides my usual daddy duties, I have a number of events taking me out of town. After just coming off my time in Ocean City with the new 2017 Elantra I had Hyundai fresh on my mind as I prepared for my next trip to  the DMV area. Fortunately the 2016 Sonata Sport 2.0 with its 18 inch wheels, sleek appearance and extra muscle was waiting for me. The step up in model gave me some more room and power under the hood as I made my way down the 95.

Space, Style and Power at your fingertips in the 2016 Hyundai Sonata.

My next destination was the Black Weblog Awards that were held during the 2016 Blogging While Brown conference in Washington, DC. That was one of the most smooth rides into the nation’s capital I’ve ever taken. I can see that the new Elantra took a lot of its design influence from the Sonata.

Blogging While Brown – Black Weblog Awards Acceptance

Essentially the Sonata is the Elantra’s big brother. Ruling the mid-size class with the most interior space of any other vehicle, you know I’m already enjoying myself.

The Sonata includes some of our favorite and at this point expected features like hands free smart trunk access, remote key ignition, rear view cameras, blind spot and lane safety detection alerts and gorgeous leather laced interior with sporty gear shift handle, pedals and chrome accents.

Besides the increase in size and space, it was the Sonata’s power that quickly struck me after a week with the Elantra. Going from  a solid 147 horsepower engine to the twin turbo pushing at up to 245 horses, the feel on the road is night and day.  When you couple that with the Sport mode steering setting and you really do feel like gliding on the open road.

I’m not even going to lie. There were a number of impressed looks as I pulled up on George Washington University for the Blogging While Brown Conference. Here’s the thing. People see the running around that I do. With so much going on and so many things on my plate, there is only so much time I can put into transportation. How ever I choose to move about needs to be quality so I can think about other things. The Hyundai Sonata allowed me 100% confidence in the fact that I’d be arriving where I needed to be without any issues.

If nothing else, Hyundai is coming through with lots of options for your driving desires. The Sonata Sport that I experienced goes for just under $30K with the Limited Edition running you about $5K more for all the top features and added treats. At either level, I’d say that you will be a happy customer once you hit that road.

SAMURAI RIDES: RIDING THE 2017 HYUNDAI ELANTRA TO AN OCEAN CITY GETAWAY

SAMURAI RIDES: RIDING THE 2017 HYUNDAI ELANTRA TO AN OCEAN CITY GETAWAY

2017ELANTRA001

The dog days of summer have arrived and what better way to beat the heat then to get down to the shore and enjoy the ocean breeze. That was the game plan and the destination was Ocean City, MD. For this mini vacation I got to take an early peek into 2017 with Hyundai’s Elantra Eco. Packed full of food, clothes and a ton of baby items, it was another digital daddy experience as baby Max went on his first vacation.

I’m really a fan of the Elantra’s appearance. The wide, aggressive grill design gives this car such an eye-catching look on top of the sleek Black paint job. Fitted with 17 inch wheels Hyundai excels at creating a simple yet striking style. Hop in the car and you get comfy seating that includes heating options for the cooler months. A/C operates with dual zone control so both the driver and up front passenger can control their respective climate. I have to say that for a compact car the seating felt wider which really improved my riding.

In riding down to Ocean City every inch of trunk space and them some was put to use. My lifestyle is constant motion so being able to hold the things I need for business and personal really matters. In addition to that, the amount of material that was in the car over all didn’t affect the ride at all. The Elantra rode nice and smooth all the way down to O.C. Even when a bad thunder-storm hit wet road control was top-notch.

2017ELANTRA002
For 2017, you get a ton of mobile integration with many of your most used apps via Apple CarPlay™ & Android Auto™

To keep myself  entertained there are the expected assortment of feature. SiriusXM, Bluetooth, Aux and USB ports give you all the means to enjoy your tunes of choice. In addition to that there are some cool mobile connectivity options for your respective phones. Check out the features for AppleCarPlay & Android Auto.

Safety has always been the top matter to me regarding any #SamuraiRide.  Those vehicle elements matter that much more to me now that I have the most precious cargo, my son riding along now. Hyundai’s Elantra offers you Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-traffic alerts and Lane Departure Alerts. This offers a trustworthy field of added safety for things you can’t always see around you while on the road. And while there are a lot of features included to prevent it, accidents unfortunately still happen. The Elantra comes equipped with 6 front airbags, included a newly added bag for the drivers knee area, in addition to full side airbags. With everything that goes on around you on the road do I feel safe in the Elantra? The answer is yes. More importantly do I feel safe when I place my son in this car? Yes I do.

Within the economy class of cars Hyundai has made a lot of strides and continues to deliver in performance, style and safety. The roads are full of excited, sometimes speeding, vacationers and you really want to enjoy yourself without worrying about your ride.

OCMAXI’d definitely suggest the Elantra as  a solid option for anyone looking for a new ride that gives you a good bang for your buck. As the new year steadily approaches  2017 Elantra is a nice sign of what Hyundai has in store. It passed Max’s test of approval too.

Samurai Rides: Warm Winter Riding With the 2016 Hyundai Tucson #DriveHyundai

Samurai Rides: Warm Winter Riding With the 2016 Hyundai Tucson #DriveHyundai

SMRIDES001

One of the highlights of #Samurai Rides from 2015 was the private  hands on review day Hyundai arranged to launch the 2016 Tucson. I absolutely loved this ride. The only downside was that I was limited to a single business day to put the new SUV through its paces. Fortunately I got my wish to put some extended miles on the Tucson to get 2016 rolling.

My first time with the Tucson put me behind the wheel of their high-end Limited model which included the parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, lane detection and HID headlights among other quality features.

The 2016 Hyunai Tucson Limited

This time around we scaled it back to give the standard edition a shot. Obviously there are a few less bells and whistles but it handled just a smoothly on the road. From Westchester to Manhattan the streets of NYC weren’t an issue to navigate. Then upon hearing the news of the recently opened AmalgamPhilly Comic & Coffeeshop I decided to take a trip to the City of Brotherly Love. Equipped with a multi speaker surround sound system for my Sirius XM/HD radio/MP3 pleasure it was a sweet 2 hour commute into Pennsylvania.

You’re looking at  a difference of roughly $5000 from Standard to Limited with the majority of the differences being cosmetic. You do lose Hyundai’s Blue Link service so if that is something you need then an upgrade to Limited edition is need. Besides that you’re in for a great experience across the broad.

Samurai Rides: Happy New Year With The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Samurai Rides: Happy New Year With The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid #DriveHyundai

20160104_122734

Just like that 2016 is here and with comes new travels and adventures. I found myself on the streets of Harlem as the ball dropping closing 2015. My partner on the road was Hyundai’s 2016 Sonata Hybrid Limited Edition. This was a great ride and I enjoyed the ability to follow up with another version of this model. In late 2014 I reviewed the 2015 Sonata and I quickly noticed some changes in this years Edition.

Off top there are some design changes I noticed like the wider grill front, larger wheels and slight longer sleeker body design. The interior received a literal face lift as the as the touch screen display is now 7 inches and includes the rearview camera absent from late years model. Also available is a beautiful panoramic sunroof. With the recent warm winter weather it was ideal for letting the light in while on the road. On the flip side the rear seat come with pull down window shades in case you want a degree of privacy.

In addition to that the Android Auto system that syncs your smartphone to the car to cut distraction is available with updated software available via Hyundai’s home site. Keeping on the topic of technology, the simultaneous functioning of the gas engine and electric battery felt so smooth on the road I actually forgot it was a Hybrid for the first couple days.

20160104_122540

I really like the changes the Hyundai has been with the 2016 Sonata and with a price tag hovering around $21K you get a lot for that dollar. Quality and efficiency are areas that Hyundai has impressed me with at a consistent rate over the last year and this Hybrid is no exception. You won’t be disappointed.

Social Media Samurai Year In Review: The Best Of Samurai Rides 2015

Social Media Samurai Year In Review: The Best Of Samurai Rides 2015

SMSRACERLOGO

It’s been an amazing year for #SamuraiRides. The good people at DriveShop have put me in behind the wheels of some great vehicles. I can honestly say I didn’t have a bad experience with any of the rides I reviewed. As I prepare for the new fleet of cars for year 2016-2017 lets take a look back at some of the stand out experiences I had in the 2015. Having reviewed multiple cars of a few specific automotive brands I’ll share the best of each in this wrap up edition of Samurai Rides.

SAMURAI RIDES: NOMADNESS ANNIVERSARY WEEK WITH THE 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS

SAMURAI RIDES: NOMADNESS ANNIVERSARY WEEK WITH THE 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS

2015GENESIS1

This is a very special edition of Samurai Rides. This marks the official 1 yr anniversary of my coverage of the newest automobiles to hit the street from many of your trusted brands. It’s fitting that this anniversary coincides with the Nomadness Anniversary weekend. Much of my Samurai Ride travel links into my Nomadness duties so it’s only right to celebrate the two! This year leading into the massive weekend I was blessed with the Hyundai Genesis to make my way around the busy street of New York.

With the UN, Beyonce and most notably the Pope in town, I was about to really put the Genesis to the test. Hyundai has again succeeded in delivering style, performance and luxury in a super affordable package. The genesis rides smooth and handles amazingly on the open road or in stop-and-go rush hour traffic.

SAMURAI RIDES: CHANGING THE DEFINITION OF “COMPACT” WITH THE 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA #DRIVEHYUNDAI

HYUNDAIELANTRA00

The dog days of Summer are upon us and as we creep towards the end of August we keep things rolling here with the latest edition of #SamuraiRides. This time around we continue taking a look at what Hyundai’s 2016 line up offers us with the new Elantra GT. Combining a unique physical design, power and an array of digital “Blue Link” features, the Elantra presented a lot more than I was expecting.

SAMURAI RIDES: SPECIAL LOOK AT THE NEW 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON #NEWTUCSON

NEWTUCSON

Recently I had the extreme pleasure to be invited to a private viewing and hands on experience with the brand new 2016 Hyundai Tucson. I’ve mentioned before that Hyundai holds a special spot with me as the Hyundai Excel which debated in 1986 was my very first car. Nearly 20 years later to see what Hyundai is doing is amazing. I spent the day the riding the roads from Manhattan to Rockland county and I was very impressed. Here are my thoughts on Hyundai’s newest vehicle.

The smaller SUV space is a popular one right now. Consumers love the concept of having extra space while still in a smaller less overbearing car. As a former Ford Expedition owner I count myself in that group too. Size and space coupled with gas efficiency and on road handling are a killer combination. Before getting into the driving elements of things let me say that the design of Hyundai’s Tucson is real sleek.

20150805_114613

In all honesty I wouldn’t have guessed this was a Hyundai at first. I elected  to ride in a  black on black but for those looking for more color options, Hyundai actually created 6 new colors for the 2016 edition.

HYUNDAITUCSON3

The Caribbean Blue was a standout to me.

MY16 Hyundai Tucson

When we hit the road I was caught off guard by the power of the Tucson. I had to really be careful because you could find yourself pushing 80 mph with limited effort. The braking is super responsive. as well. You know this NYC streets tested that feature well. Within its class Hyundai’s Tucson boasts the shortest distance for 60 to 0 mph brake coverage. More safety features include Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert for backing up into on coming traffic all keep you aware of the cars moving around you beyond your own vision.

The Tucson is equipped with all the technology goodies you’ve come to expect in today’s automobiles. Navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, AUX adaptability, XM  radio and more. There are no shortages of entertainment options here. The sound system is clear and powerful which is a must have for those lengthy road trips.

Vision remains clear no matter the time of day and condition wit LED and HID lights up front and on the rear of the car. That includes lighting for the door handles as you approach the vehicle. Along with that, for those moments when your hands are full, the trunk opens automatically when it senses the key remote within 3 ft in the rear.

20150805_115008

Truthfully I was disappointed I getting have a longer amount of time with the Tucson. I really need to give it the full #SamuraiRides treatment. Perhaps I’ll bring that to you guys in the near future. For now hit the jump to check out some images and information about the Hyundai Tuscon. With a price ceiling of $34K for the top model it’s the ideal combination of affordability and quality.

Samurai Rides: Holiday Gift Giving With the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

Samurai Rides: Holiday Gift Giving With the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

#Hyundai

It’s my favorite time of year and with everything that is going on in this nation the ability to step back and enjoy a little personal time is much appreciated. My recent time behind the wheel of the Hyundai Sonata was pretty impressive and this time around I upgraded in size to try out the Hyundai Sante Fe Sport. I have an affinity for larger cars so this was right up my alley.  Plus the added truck space would be needed as I knocked out my gift buying for those stateside and back in Antigua.

#Hyundai

Hyundai

The Santa Fe Sport handles amazingly well for such a large car and its Driver Selectable Steering Mode affords the options of 3 different steering modes for added preference. As I’ve expressed before the sound system is essential and the Sante Fe comes equipped with the Infinity Logic 7 Surround Sound Audio system.  Not just was there ample power for the music but multiple Aux jacks and Bluetooth connectivity allowed me to pull tunes from a number of sources. With the cold weather officially here the individual seat heating functions were put to great use.

Hyundai

With my gift list in hand and discount assistance from a friend I made a run to the nearby outlet mall for some seasonal shopping and an opportunity to clear my head for an afternoon.

Hyundai

Hyundai has provided me some quality on road action. First with their Sonata and now with the Santa Fe Sport. If you’re looking for a quality ride at a nice price this is it.  Balancing affordability with more luxury comforts then you’d expect, this sport would be a nice addition to your life in the new year.
