NYC Hosts Word of Mouth Marketing Summit – [WOMMA 2017]

NYC Hosts Word of Mouth Marketing Summit – [WOMMA 2017]

womma logo

The New York Times building played host the annual WOMMA Summit this past week. The summit featured speakers from a number of major brands like MGM Grand, Tito’s Vodka, BuzzFeed, Wendy’s and many more.

WOMMA which stands for word-of-mouth-marketing presented two days of panel discussions, informative sessions that dove into various aspects of Social Media communication, content creation and the overall effect of digital activity on society. Many brands spoke about how they craft their respective voices along with the teams and systems that go into creating the content that the consumers see on a daily basis.

The online comedic wit of the Wendy’s brand was center stage for that chat courtesy of their V.P of Media, Ads & Social Brandon Rhoten.

Univision EVP Jessica Rodriguez opened up the Summit speaking on ownership of responsibility within her digital teams and the effects of “influencers”.

They also had a number of sessions that spoke not so much to a specific business purpose but how Society as a whole interacts with social media. As social continues to grow and evolve around us it’s playing a greater role in and having increased influence on day to day life. Topics such as prejudice, discrimination, fake news and more were touched on via author Emanuel Rosen

In addition to that WOMMA also addressed the issues of influencers in a few respective sessions. Kevin Knight of Experticity broke down what actually makes an influencer on various levels of scale, what their responsibilities are and how do they best express and deliver on the message of a respective brand.

It’s very informative to get a look into what larger mainstream businesses are doing and thinking in regards to social media. Learning what their methods are that result in the content that they create and what are the do’s and don’ts are that they apply to their own digital spaces. These things are important to be aware of as many of these brands set the trends that up-and-coming businesses and entrepreneurs tend to follow. Not to mention we see on a daily basis many mainstream bands continue to get social wrong and put themselves in positions where not just are they acting in error but then they are put on full display for the world to see just how out-of-touch they are. Truthfully speaking in today’s climate with social media as established as it is you should know the ramifications of the things you do in our business. Nothing is secret and customer service is now a spectator sport. How you treat your customers is no longer lost within phone calls and snail mail complaint letters.

Nicole Portwood of Tito’s Vodka says it best. “We focus on being as human as much as possible vs. being so product-driven.”

This sentiment does well in summing up the overall tone of the WOMMA Summit. Word of Mouth Marketing essentially is a reminder that no matter how far social media advances it is the social aspect, the direct person to person element that carries the greatest value for businesses to succeed. WOMMA isn’t stopping with the summit either. There are a number of events upcoming via WOMMA to continue the conversation of how our communication is evolving and impacting our business.

NMDN Conference Returns / Nomadness 5th Year Anniversary

NMDN Conference Returns / Nomadness 5th Year Anniversary

cspshjyxyaackhw

Many things come with the end of September. In those final days we see the official end of Summer, Football season hits the 1st quarter mark and the Tribe of Nomadness flocks to New York City for its annual celebration and newly launched business conference. This year The NMDN Conference enters year 2 while the overall Nomadness movements hits its 5th year of existence. Having been here from the beginning it’s an interesting time to reflect back on humble beginnings and where Nomadness presently is.

We were again blessed with perfect weather for the final weekend of September. With Nature doing her part, NMDN set up commenced that Friday with decorations, displays, accessories and more being delivered to the venue. As is generally the case I secured the adult beverages for the big night. There is no truer sign of an official Nomadness event then me navigating a city with a ride full of libations.

5 years of Tribe…… Its that time of year! #Nomadness

As preparations were being finalized, our Nomadness family started to make its way into the city. Wrapped around the actual events of the weekend, Tribe held meet ups, brunches and various smaller gatherings all in the name of Nomadness fellowship.

I can’t help but think of all that has taken place since the 1st 100 members. The faces that have come and gone, the events, trips and bonds made. Not to mention those broken. From a small digital collective has come global acknowledgement, media recognition and a reach that literally spans the planet. It can all be a bit humbling at times. I watch it all from a unique position. High Council, Best Friend, Guardian…..I have various titles, many roles I’ve played but all of them stand in support of the Tribe. I know I saw something in this group early on but I’d be lying to say I saw all that it has become and all it would come to mean to me and so many others.

Now Nomadness functions as a global resource for current and future generations of Urban travelers. From international business inquiries, to medical info, on the ground local knowledge of cities and towns, media connections across continents, Nomadness has grown into a position of being the stand out network for our people’s traveling needs. Along the way, the Tribe has steadily been the incubator to so many other travel groups and collectives that it’s value can not be measured solely in its own accomplishments but in the over reaching growth of many others.

NMDN in 2016 showed major signs and growth and maturity as it took on a more serious travel tone then the previous year, as much more sensitive topics were brought forward to the various panels. #BlackLivesMatter, LGBTQ Travel & 911 Travel Info were just some of the topics that stood out at the conference. Powerhouse personalities like Necole Kane & YK Hong were among our guests speakers. Helping to pull things together appearance wise, hosting/lodging giant AirBNB was one of the top sponsors which included a couple of specialty AirBNB lounges furnished by Best Home Fashion.

There were a lot of moving  parts both physically and logistically but I mus say that from behind the scenes, one of the biggest things I noticed was just how seamless the day went in transitioning from panel to panel. After doing this the first time there was definitely a sense of calm as the event proceeded along. The guest panelists enjoyed their time on our stages. The attendees networked while taking in vital info. Plus they received a first look into the upcoming Nomadness mobile app.

That smooth flowing vibe would carry over into the evening Anniversary party were even more Nomadness members from around the world came through to toast to another year of travel. As our Tribe family danced to the tunes of DJ Likwid and cheered on the recipients of the annual Nomadness awards, they were also treated to a few surprises via event sponsor GOPRO.

Half  way into a decade and Nomadness is showing little sign of slowing down. With new initiatives, services and products lined up to add even more value to the growing international network, year 6 is shaping up to be its biggest one yet.

I’ve witnessed what started with a small hookah lounge meet up grow into worldwide force that as I type this has taken over a full town in Hungary. There is definitely a lot to celebrate. Most importantly is the ability to connect and enjoy life with our peers from around the world.

Check a few of the party images below and stay locked in for everything Nomadness has on deck.

Entrepreneur Launches 1st E360 Conference In New York City

Entrepreneur Launches 1st E360 Conference In New York City

Entrepreneur Media Inc looked to kick off its brand redesign with its first ever business conference E360. Within the confines of the gorgeous Hilton Midtown Hotel Entrepreneur served up a full day of business teachings, testimonials, instruction and inspiration from a wide array of successful self starters.

After morning registration and breakfast, Editorial Director Ray Hennessey opened up the day greeting the attendees and introducing Entrepreneur VP Amy Cosper. She would hold a very personal and powerful one on one with Award winning Producer, Artist and Innovator WILL.I.AM. Fielding questions from Amy and the people via Twitter, WILL.I.AM would share his personal motivations, driving forces behind his work and personal views on the current state of society and culture. One of his key points was his concern about the misuse of social media, which he calls “Dumb-Thumbing” and the under utilization of the Internet for educational purposes. One of the statements that stuck with me the most was the following.

Travel is something that has been a part of life for many for years. Yet for the most part the media depiction of Urban travel(ers) has been a mix of tropical getaways and domestic parties in locales like Miami & Las Vegas. You would never know they people like us were in Asia, Europe or Australia just like everyone else. This misrepresentation is core to what birthed Nomadness. 4 years later there is a massive growth in the urban travel community.

Just as media is still in need of more diverse travel content the live conference space that connects and networks with the people and brands in the travel community is suffering from the same issue. If Nomadness shows the world anything, let be that when a space is nonexistent we will create it.  From that same spark that formed the Nomadness Travel Tribe we give you NMDN.

Nomadness Creator Evita Robinson Announces #NMDN Conference

Nomadness Creator Evita Robinson Announces #NMDN Conference

Nomadness

For the past 3+ years there’s been a force bubbling on these Internets within the often over looked Urban Travel community. The name Nomadness has quickly come up as representative to an exclusive and close-knit collective of travel professionals, entrepreneurs and nomadic creatives under the watch of Ms Evita Robinson.  As a member and overseeing component of Nomadness I’ve seen first hand the growth and reach of this community and it comes as no shock to me that now the general public is starting to catch on.

Nomadness

This past Sunday by way of Television on Arise TV and Internet via The Daily Beast, Evita Robinson dropped the official announcement of the #NMDN Conference 2015. Evita describes #NMDN, the Nomadness ALTERnative Travel Conference, as a product of necessity. The “3 time expat” shares the frustration of many within the Urban Travel world that current travel events and conferences lack a serious level of diversity in regards to gender, ethnicity, age and culture. Similarly to how she gave birth to Nomadness to fill a gaping hole in her world so too does #NMDN rise up to provide a unique platform to those that are true embodiments of the Travel lifestyle. #NMDN will be a home to those that exist out of the box that is mainstream society’s view of what a traveler is.

While details are limited for now, in an exclusive message to the Tribe Evita did mention that the aim is for #NMDN to coincide with Nomadness Tribe Anniversary Weekend which is the final weekend of Sept. Those that have attended Tribe functions or seen events that Evita has spoken at know there is an unconventional element to the way things are done. It’s made to be expressive, loud and fun. It’s the polar opposite to the usual conservative “business class” environments that often are the norm for conferences. You can expect #NMDN to have a flair and an energy representative of the Urban Hip Hop culture that Nomadness was spawned from.

The Samurai and Friends Have Social Media Week Covered

The Samurai and Friends Have Social Media Week Covered

Social Media Week

It starts today as I finish my final preparations and make a few last pick ups for the week ahead. This week will be a continuous stream of information coming from your resident 6 foot 5 inch Samurai. With the backing and support of Collective Bias I’m making my Social Media Week debut and I intend to make it a memorable time. I believe that we have so many resources at our disposal but our efficiency is relative for our knowledge. There is a ton to be learned this week and I can’t wait.

This is also an occasion to sharpen my own swords while letting folk know just what I’m capable of. Networking, connections and professional advancement is the name of the game. I remember last year when I went with my fellow Nomadness Travel Tribe members Evita and Kelly for a TV appearance with Arise TV. While the ladies were doing their thing on camera I was there armed with a Blackberry and an iPad mini. From pictures, to short vids to tweets and Facebook updates I had things covered. Afterwards, one of the Arise employees realized I was the one handling all the social media and she said. “That was you? Just you alone? You’re like a social media tornado!”  I smiled and thanked her. I take pride in my social media coverage of live events. ECBACC & Animekon for the Omega Nexus, The Nomadness Tribe’s National College Tour w/ Hotels.com, Celebrity panels & Mass media events for radio, TV, fashion and more. Just recently covering the Superbowl for multiple retail brands. I embrace the opportunity to put in work in real-time when the eyes are on me. I’m looking to set the bar high this week, very high.

Social Media Week

As if that wasn’t enough, I take even more pleasure in knowing that many of my friends, associates and Nomadness Tribe mates are in on the Social Media Week action. SMW in Lagos Nigeria will feature panels hosted by Ms Cherae Robinson’s Rare Customs that feature Nomadness Tribe creator Evita Robinson, International Photographer Stephanie O’Connor and Social Media Strategist Luvvie Ajayi. We’l have both sides of the globe covered in one manner or another. I hope you will be able to connect with me at same point during this week!!

I’ll be operating on all my social media channels using #SMSW2014 so stay tuned to see what’s coming on!
