If You Think A Cost-Per-Engagement System Is A Good Influencer Payment System Think Again

paid-blogging

Businesses are looking to get the most out of their dollars when collaborating with influencers to marketing their brand. You hear it all day about ROI, Return On Investment. What are you getting for the money spent on a respective campaign. The playing field is still very fluid. From the FTC routinely popping up to flex its might and changing views on social media influencer marketing to influencers buying followers to inflate their asking prices it’s really a lawless space. One of the other elements that may be on the rise is CPE payment. Cost-Per-Engagement basically means getting paid specifically on the engagement criteria agreed upon. It could be the number of shares, likes, comments, etc.  Collective Bias SVP Holly Pavlika speaks on this matter and issues it could create a in a recent blog. Lets check some of that out then I’ll add my 2 cents.

There are definitely some pros to this model, so the appeal is warranted. CPE focuses the attention on influencer selection, the quality of their content and the importance of data. It also stops the misnomer that it’s all about the size of the influencer’s following, when in essence, study after study shows it’s the middle tier influencer who gets the most engagement.

This does not mean, however, that influencers should be taking the risk of uncertain income associated with the CPE model. Here’s why: for influencers, CPE encourages fraudulent practices that harm their authenticity and devalue their content. To boost engagement, influencers can game the system and enlist their communities to comment, click on links and share. They might buy traffic and likes, enable repeat-sharing, or even incentivize their audience to engage by using sweepstakes or giveaways. It’s contrived metrics at best.

*See the full Collective Bias Post Here*

As an influencer myself I can tell you it’s not the way to go. I work with Collective Bias and they operate on a variable per post system. Going into any campaign, once selected I know what I’m earning and that allows me to focus purely on the content requested for the job. Be clear of the roles in this arrangement. Brands hire influencers to press their products/service/events with honest engaging communication. Influencers work with brands to build their professional clout and make money. With that being said there is a balance that you aim for in terms of content quality and direct message sending. Anything that could distract from that is problematic. In this case the idea of financial uncertainty connected to the CPE model.

All of our time is valuable. I’d have no interest in putting in the time to research and review a brand only to have my pay left up in the air to the number of likes or shares it may get. Influence is not measured in those metrics alone and it does a great disservice to operate in that way.

cpemodel_blog-graphic

I don’t feel that all influencers would engage in shady operations under CPE but I think more would do so then currently are. Digital influencer marketing is already an uncertain space as is. Putting content creators in the position of counting every share and RT connected to their work seems like a sure-fire way to negatively effect the quality of work they put out. Brands to trust in the research that goes into finding influencers and truly identifying their influence so it’s not such a gamble on their part. No one likes having their money played with

#ChangingPrepaid

Faithful readers are aware of some of the moves and sacrifices I’ve made over the past year or so to ease my transition from a standard 9 to 5 worker to more online social media focused work. One of the more frustrating adjustments was leaving a long time relationship with my cellular provider for a more budget friendly prepaid phone. My days of effectively navigating the mobile Internets were halted. I found ways to get by but it was a definite adjustment. One of the things I told myself was that I would not return to a major provider unless it had everything I needed AND was affordable. So it was requested and now it has been granted  as the T-Mobile Simply Prepaid plan is literally #ChangingPrepaid. For a mere $40 I’m getting unlimited talk, text and data w/ monthly options. This gives me everything I need but now with the control of paying for exactly what I want, when and how I want.

Generally when you think of prepaid phone options you assume that you’ll be giving up access to top of the line phones. If not that you usually have to deal with suspect network coverage. T-Mobile is really changing the way people think about the concept of prepaid.  Another point that sealed the deal with me was learning that I could now be apart of T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network without having to go through credit checks or be tied into another contract. That was all I needed to know to get up and get my new phone from Walmart.

#ChangingPrepaid (xx)

#ChangingPrepaid (1x1)

I was literally in and out in 15 minutes. No contract rules or clauses. No one poking into my financial business. I love the ease of it all. I was back home and activating my phone within an hour of when I left for Walmart.

It’s been a minute since I’ve had a smart phone and a strong network to give me seamless online access for my mobile needs. Instead of being plugged in at all times I’d gotten used to operating in selected periods of time based around WiFi availability. To have that constant connectivity back is relief. As a content creator that prides himself on mobility, working at various locations, I can’t wait to be able give true real-time posting again. The Galaxy Avant that I picked up is essentially the smart phone version of the Galaxy Note that comes everywhere with me. This move will really increase efficiency and manageability for me. I’ll no longer need to bring a large tablet everywhere to live tweet and update events.

#ChangingPrepaid

On the spot Foursquare/Swarm check ins at my hotels or tweeting in a Uber ride to a tech conference. Checking my emails anytime, anywhere is a luxury that I gladly welcome back.

After spending the past year operating minute to minute with a tracfone, getting the freedom of unlimited calls and text back is a digital breath of fresh air. Simply Prepaid is a plan that I’m definitely going to share with friends that I know are in the market for a phone change. Especially with the quality of T-Mobile’s international coverage too. Well you guys see whats going on with me on the gadget front. What do you guys think about one of the best companies in the wireless game expanding into prepaid plan options?

The days are getting cooler and that chill is returning to the evening air. Just like that the final days of summer are here and as we prepare for the fall season we also have the return of the seasonal flu to deal with.  With the national state of health care changing for so many people it’s a relief to have a dependable, efficient immunization option. As adults we run around so much and often forget the need to really take care of ourselves or we don’t want to deal with the red tape and hassle of health care plans . Many people have opted out of  having them or don’t wish to pay whats being offered. Fortunately Walgreens does offer another way.

#GetaShot #cbias #shop

The Walgreens pharmacy and medical center has an easy walk in scheduling system. It can even be set up online for those of us really on the move. The vaccinations are offered for adolescents, adults and seniors. Seasonal Flu has been known to take a toll on older citizens so don’t over look the value of this.

#GetsShot #cbias #shop

In addition to maintaining your own personal health, Walgreens has linked up with the UN Foundation’s Shot @Life as part of the #GetaShot Give a Shot campaign. It’s self explanatory as Walgreens does it’s part in producing life saving medical care to children lacking access to these vaccinations.   In many nations the morality rate is greatly effected by illnesses in children that can be easily prevented if the vaccines were available.  #CollectiveBias wants to raise awareness of that and from now until October 13th  the  Get a Shot Give a Shot program is matching your immunizations at Walgreens with a donated shot for Polio or Measles for those that need it most. It’s a win/win deal that has already helped hundreds of thousands of people.

#GetsShot #cbias #shop

It’s a harsh reality that so many families have to deal with death that can readily be avoided if not for a lack of resources. To personally be able to get medical care you would normally get and additionally have that could go towards saving others is an incredible thing. Please get familiar with the Get a Shot Give a Shot program and share this ongoing campaign with your friends and family, Thanks!!

Gillette Delivers That #SmoothSummer Look with the New Fusion Blade

Gillette Delivers That #SmoothSummer Look with the New Fusion Blade

#SmoothSummer

One of the signature benefits of the summer is the steady warm weather and extended day light. It allows for hours upon hours of socializing with friends and family, but if you’re going to be all out and about you better look proper. That hibernation period leading up to the summer allowed you to get away for the Grizzly Adams look but now it’s time to smooth it out. Fortunately Gillette comes through with the ideal shaving tool, the Gillette fusion proglide.

#SmoothSummer

It’s the peak of Summer travel time for me. In the midst of a schedule that took me from New York City to Atlanta back to New York and then to Toronto there was little time for a stop at the barber shop once I got moving.

#SmoothSummer #SmoothSummer

In preparation for this I made sure Gillette’s new razor was coming with me on the road to keep a #SmoothSummer look consistent where ever I was. #CollectiveBias let me know of its availability so the day before leaving town I was up bright and early at Walmart for my travel shaving needs.

#SmoothSummer

This new razor is truly a god send. Men all know that facial workout we have to go through to get the right shave.

#SmoothSummer

It’s the crazy face Olympics as we try to smooth and stretch out skin to glade across all the needed areas. Thankfully the fusion proglide utilizes a simple yet effective flex ball based design that rolls with the contours of your face for a smooth cut minus the unnatural facial movements. For me personally that’s bonus as it cut down on irritation. I have sensitive skin so that’s very important if I have any intentions of a #SmoothSummer look. I have a personal shaving team of the Gillette razor, electric trimmer and Bump Patrol after shave to finish off the deal.

This past 2 weeks really put Gillette to the test too. From home to hotel to hotel I had my trusty Gillette on deck. While attending dinners, BBQs and celebrations I kept my beard lined up with the smooth face intact. Not to mention in the middle of a lazy Sunday I got a last-minute request for a business Skype call. I would have been doomed without my Fusion Proglide for a shave before turning on my web cam. My trust in this razor is so solid that I had to give one to my father as well and he loves it.

This is a long await answer to an age-old question. Can you get an easy smooth shave without standing on your head? Yes you can thanks to Gillette.

 #DRMobileApp

New Yorkers are quite familiar with the efficiency, quality and “on every corner” presence of Duane Reade. I’m never more then a street or 2 away from anything I find myself in need of. That brand faith now gets a major shot in the arm as Duane Reade has just introduced the new #DRMobileApp version 2.o with iBeacon. I was really excited to check this out once I received word of it from #CollectveBias. For the store that is everywhere and has everything you can now expedite your time with Duane Reade’s new app. With an array of features on deck you’re relationship with Duane Reade now is no longer limited to being in the store or on the home website.

The App layout is simple and clean with very user friendly interface. You log in with the same account info from the home Walgreens/Duane Reade website. Your info transfers over to the mobile app. From there you can do a number of things to make your trips to Duane Reade more time effective. You can directly edit and order images to be printed or turn those pictures into cards, calendars and more via Quick Prints. Similarly you can browse the store to create shopping lists on the fly. Along with that the app allows you to order some items for fast timely delivery or you can just go pick up your order.

#DRMobileApp

Visit iTunes to download the new #DRMobileApp Version 2.0

The health aspects this app can deliver you may be the great element yet. Prescription management, refills and even walk-in medical appointments can all be accessed through the app. The Rx options include the ability to save your specific info by directly scanning the barcode, using the prescription # or even the QR code. Again this is ideal for that person on the go that may have the habit of forgetting when their own their final pill. The app’s reminder and refill functions should eliminate those struggles.

In regards to wellness the Walk with Walgreens program that has now been renamed Steps has been imported as well so you can keep track of your progress from your mobile device too. That also links into your Rewards Points which you can check here as well. You’ll see your present points total and how far you are from the next goal level. There is also an option for store activity. What makes this so useful is that you can pull up previous purchases and add them to your shopping list for future visits.

#DRMobileApp

Finally, with the new #DRMobileApp comes the inclusion of new iBeacon location-based notifications. Starting in a few central Manhattan stores this new technology via the apps reads your proximity and once in the store sends a prompt to start-up the app and see what discounts are taking place in that respective store. This on site feature also reads what coupons you’ve digitally clipped from the weekly flyer and reminds you of what you have so you don’t miss even more savings. I almost forgot to save 55 cents on the Glade air fresheners I needed but was reminded when the iBeacon notifications for the app kicked in. On a side note, people have asked me my thoughts on security with this app. People don’t like the sound of something retail based reacting to your movements. What I tell people is to view this as reverse Foursquare. Instead you checking into the store to unlock deals, once you’re app enters the iBeacon field the store checks in with you.

In watching Duane Reade continue to embrace full interactivity with their customers makes this new mobile step no real surprise. This app succeeds in creating a fully robust customer relationship from web site to mobile to in store. Don’t be surprised when more businesses start implementing this type of tech as the digital movement marches towards more mobile activity. Make sure you visit iTunes to download the free #DRMobileApp and try all of this out for yourself. Expect an Android version in the near future.

Union Square Welcomes The Brand New Walgreens Flagship Store

Union Square Welcomes The Brand New Walgreens Flagship Store

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a

#WAGUnionSq,Union Square, Walgreens

I’ve been fully aware of Walgreens since I was a kid. It was a store my parents and I popped into to get stuff. When the shopping list didnt involve many food based items Walgreens was a store we’d go to. We’d pick up household items, cold medicines, cleaning supplies, etc. It was convenience shopping. Now as an adult I see just how much Walgreens has grown and evolved. It’s not just a convenient stop but rather I pivotal part of life for many. I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Union Square #WAGUnionSq opening via #CollectiveBias and to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.

“We are here for the community and offering convienent as well as happy and healthy services.” – Larett Austin, Walgreens Grand Opening Host & Store Manager

The morning ribbon cutting included a number Walgreens executive’s and managers, along  New York City public officials who all showed tons of support for this project. The mixer period of the morning, with music via DJ K, allowed for a tour of the newly renovated store and a chance to sample a lot of what makes this Walgreens stand out. When I first walked in I was caught off guard by the size of the Sushi & Health Bar called the “Up Market”. All foods are prepared fresh and it clearly served as the breakfast and/or lunch destination for many in the area as the fruit bowls and sandwichs kept moving. I personally became a quick fan of the smoothie drinks being offered. I’m allergic to seafood so the sushi samples I had to pass on but reactions around me and the speed that the samples disappeared at spoke volumes. You always have to be careful when dealing with raw foods. I finished the Up Market tour with their frozen yogurt section. It was pretty cool, no pun intended, with a completely self serve set up. Even better to me was the fact that the price for the desserts was a fixed amount based on size and not on weight as most locations do.

#WAGUnionSq,Union Square, Walgreens

When we were brought up to the 2nd level of the store I saw what for me and for many was the real standout feature. The new Health & Pharmacy center was amazing. The center allows for online reservations, prescription pick ups, onsite immunizations and more. The waiting area includes screens that give you the time remaining on your service to be picked up so you can better manage your time. They’ve also added a separate room for service that provides the privacy that many previous in-store pharmacies lack. The whole process seems so much more efficient and gives a true clean medical feeling with in the store.

#WAGUnionSq,Union Square, Walgreens

So, medical needs and  fresh meals are 2 of the new elements Walgreens has incorporated at the Union Square location. I’m thinking to myself there’s only one other thing that would make this place ideal, WIFI!!!! Yes, the brilliant minds behind this store relaunch added the technological component that pulls so many customers into other places like Starbucks. Add the ability to hop online and get work done while having your lunch or waiting at the pharmacy and you’ve got a real winning situation in place. As I’ve been learning more about what goes into a business like this I’m definitely viewing Walgreens in a different light than the simplistic corner store mindset I had as a child. I’d definitely recommend folk that are passing through Union Square to swing though and check it out.

You can see even more of the new store in my Google+ Album!!! Also take a look at the official ribbon cutting below!!
