SAMURAI RIDES: FAST PACED SUMMER FUN WITH THE 2017 MAXDA MX-5 MIATA!!!

Copy of Mazda MX 5

There are few times during the year when I get extra excited for a review ride opportunity. To be perfectly honest with you this particular samurai ride has been in the making sense much earlier in the year. And it almost didn’t happen but I’m glad to say that I got my time to try out Mazda’s incredibly fun sports car the MX-5 Miata. The Mazda MX-5 Miata 2017 edition was an incredible ride and I can’t wait to tell you some of the things that I enjoyed about it. I’m sure when it’s all said and done someone in the mood for a little fun on the road will definitely want to take a look at this vehicle. Once again I was back on the 95 from the city of brotherly love back to Gotham and this summer experience was definitely a highlight of the year.

What’s on deck for today? #summer2017 #mazdamx5 #drivemazda

Last time I was in the MX-5 it was an early look at the 2016 Miata and that model was a soft top. It had basically the same size.

GIF_20150907_155950

The roof came down with a simple flip up on the latch via your own hand and you can go from topless to fully covered without any issue. This time around I had the hardtop version of the MX-5. The big difference in handling here is that going from fully covered to drop top operation simply requires you to engage the power switch. Hold down the switch and the car does the rest as long as you are stationary or at least under 6 miles per hour in motion the vehicle either pulls up or pulls back the hardtop and you’re ready to go.

As I’m sure most of you can tell this ride is not made for excess baggage. There is a modest trunk in the back if you’ve got some moving around to do for the day. If you have a simple travel bag, a carry-on luggage type of bag then you’re good. Outside of that, you’re not going to be moving tons of cargo in this vehicle. And honestly why would you want to? This is definitely a ride meant for you, maybe a partner and a very, very light load. At 6’4 I say that I probably am tapping on the limits of space that this ride is really designed for.

MX520175 MX5201715

With that being said I was able to drive with no levels of discomfort. I was able to reach and handle all buttons and knobs. All Miata functions and accessories could be operated without any trouble despite my size. So if I was able to do that, the standard size person should have no trouble utilizing in everything that the MX- 5 has to offer.

MX Inside

On the road handling is incredible. This lightweight speedster really picks up speed in no time and I’ll be perfectly honest, you have to watch that speed when you get on the open road because you cam find yourself hitting 100 miles per hour very easily. We don’t want people messing up there driving record while enjoying this fun sized vehicle. We also know that Mazda takes incredible pride in its craftsmanship and the design of its rides inside and out. You won’t be let down by the combination of luxury and racing design that is fully on display with the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata.

Mazda has continued to put out some of the most beautiful rides on the market and they haven’t it missed a beat with this one either. Dive into the galleries for some gorgeous shots of the MX-5. This is truly a feel good ride. If you’re in the market for something fun, fast and built for special company, then you’ll absolutely love the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata. #DriveMazda

New Podcast Launch – Who’s Listening EP.00

New Podcast Launch – Who’s Listening EP.00 & EP.01

WhosListening00

Funny how life goes in circles. Years ago I was a pretty solid fixture in the internet radio/podcasting/online streaming space. I co-hosted a Toronto-based online show. I made regular appearances on a number of pretty popular online shows and even on my personal blog I was doing a video blogs very heavy.

Now, to have stepped away from that and then see you that same media blow up with a current surge of podcast activity I won’t lie it’s bittersweet. I think I have a habit of being too far ahead of the curve and several times I’m so far ahead that I missed out on the chance to monetize what it is I’ve already been doing.

With that being said, Facebook over the past week just rolled out a very interesting feature. They announced this back at the tail end of last year and now it’s finally hitting. They announce the audio only feature within Facebook live so if you’re not someone who is camera ready at the moment but has a lot to say, has a voice that needs to be heard or a voice that the people want to hear this is the perfect thing. Obviously, you would do your recordings for the benefit of a live audience at the same time your material is saved which you can direct people back to or share across social media.

This past week I introduced “Who’s Listening”.  Episode 00, the pilot episode. This is me stepping back into the podcast world with this first episode. I spoke about the Yankee captain Derek Jeter having his number retired along with a few Yankee memories. I touched on the NBA playoffs as well. In addition, there was social media talk about virtual reality and “Smart” tech like voice recognition.   The main topic of the show was the  “black women are trash black men or trash” t-shirt fiasco that hit the internet last week. I definitely gave some opinions on that so without further ado drop down and take a listen to the pilot episode of  Who’s Listening.

SAMURAI SIT DOWN: ACTRESS, MODEL & SINGER – GENESIS VAL LEON

Genesis Val Leon

Multitasking is a term that people toss around a lot. It’s true that today we find ourselves doing various things at the same time. Well, today I want to present to you a woman that truly embodies the definition of multitasking. A triple threat in everyone sense of the term, meet Genesis Val Leon today’s Samurai Sit Down feature.

Please introduce yourself, where you’re from and what you do?

My name is Genesis Val Leon and I am a curly-haired actress, singer, and model from the Bronx, New York

What was your earliest Inspiration for acting and modeling

I’ve been performing as early as 8 years old. I was that kid that would dance to TV commercials and even the car alarms that would go off on my street. My first classical music/ voice classes started when I entered second grade. I vividly remember my dad playing music from an old record player. We literally would go around the world through music. I remember him playing Tommy Boy, Queen, Whitney, Michael, Prince, Ana Gabriel, Selena and so many other. He gave me one of my greatest traits which my broad music palette. It was something we shared and still till this day do. My dad is an engineer but has an immense love for music (singing)

As for acting, my mom. My mom has the most electric and contagious personality I have ever encountered. Think Rosie Perez meets Sofia Vergara with the most beautiful accent. I remember attempting to imitate her while she would try to reprimand me and getting in so much trouble. I also remember writing apology songs and performing them whenever I got in trouble. My mom is also a huge Novela ( Hispanic Soap Operas) fan. And boy, that’s where the fun really started. You have not really laughed until you’ve watched a novela episode.

As for modeling, it just came with my personality. My first “pageant” was when I was 5 years old. I wish you all can see this video. I always had big hair and I guess my mom had put my hair in two ponytails. Well, I decided I wanted my hair out. Next thing you know, I walked out with my hair out in this gorgeous fro and strutted my way across the runway, made a detour and walked through the crowd- absolutely messed up the entire order and the organizer had to go and get me.

The Mysterious Month of Me – Facing Birthday Doubts

The Mysterious Month of Me – Facing Birthday Doubts

The Mysterious Month of Me

I don’t think I’ve ever had a month go by as fast as March has this year. The 1st fatherly Month of Me is complete and it has been one of extreme introspection. I’m trying to figure life out now without snapping at folks or losing my mind. The responsibility of fatherhood weighs on everything I do. Every time I look I’m my son’s eyes I’m dedicated that much more to not give up. Yet and still life is dead set on pushing me to my “adulting” limits. The juggling of family, finances, and feelings can get very tricky.

March does always remind me of a number of standout individuals in my life. I’m thankful for those people and the overall community that stands with me. The emotional pick me ups are clutch at a time when I’m battling serious feelings of inadequacy. The thing is, life doesn’t always provide a guy the outlet to release in the manner needed. I’m approaching a year since I left New Rochelle and so much has changed within me.

SMS MOM DD

I’m attempting not to hold so much inside but that is part of who I am at times. I’m trying to still be true to me in a world that wants my skills and talents but wants it in a different package. The emotions of life and daily economics clash often. It’s a puzzle I’m still working on. All the while Max gets bigger, smarter, more aware…….his Daddy’s story is an interesting one to say the least, but it’s still in its’ opening chapters.

As a new phase of this parenting operation approaches, I look forward to life presenting more opportunities. I also expect life to continue fighting me at every turn. Nothing worth having comes easy. I’ve slowly made moves to reestablish elements of life that make me full like my old self. The evolution of me, the progressive work of Jason continues and I’m looking to let Love, Faith & Family drive me forward.

THE STORY OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA SAMURAI: COMMUNICATION SHORTCOMINGS

THE STORY OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA SAMURAI: COMMUNICATION SHORTCOMINGS

MyStoryPic

It seems that every and all things comes down to communication. What you say, how you say it and in my case who you elect to say it too. I’ve always viewed information as selective. Everything isn’t for everyone to know and I would base this on my own personal check list of criteria. What is the overall value of this info, does it relate directly to the person I’d be telling it too, is the info complete in itself or part of something larger I may not want to share at this time, is this something that makes me happy? That’s just an example of what runs through my head both personally and professionally when I express myself. In a time when it seems that a majority of people express themselves first then think about it later I’m definitely part of the “Think twice, press send button once” crowd. For the most part it’s a communication method that has served me well.

Yet, there are still lessons to be learned. In personal matters I’m extremely tight-lipped with things until I’m ready to share. It’s a way that many don’t always get/like but it’s what works for me so I honestly don’t need it to make sense to others.  When I’m not happy I play things really close to the chest. When I am happy I don’t want to mess things up by talking about it too much. It’s an internal balance for me and I can admit that in trying to reach that balance I’m not usually worried about other people’s view on it. I’m a guy that overall doesn’t like to waste words so that has resulted in folks not hearing what they think they should.

I’m learning that’s not always the best way to approach things. As much as I speak to the power of family, friends and community, I am realizing that my cause is better served by having more faith in the people I trust to react well to whatever it is I have to share. Even if the initial reactions aren’t that positive, the result of having more open communication in the end will show who truly is down for supporting me.

There is no blueprint to this thing called life. You’re going to get thrown an array of things you may have no idea how to handle and your best bet is that you make sure that with each passeing situation you handle it better than the one before it. I’m committing myself to that level of improvement. Wish me good luck.

SAMURAI SIT DOWN: TUMBLR SENSATION CHOKESNGAGS [NSFW]

SAMURAI SIT DOWN: TUMBLR SENSATION CHOKESNGAGS [NSFW]

chokesTOP

Samurai Sit Down was created as my way to introduce various people who caught my eye and are making names for themselves in today’s new digital world. I’ve chatted with artists, media personalities, and more, but this time, I decided to dive a lil deeper into the gritty social media underbelly. What I’m talking about is Tumblr. If any space online exists as a free for all its Tumblr. You can go from cute kitty videos to the most explicit of amateur or professional sexual material. I’m no angel and I’m not  a stranger to Tumblr, which is where I encountered ChokesNGags, also known as “Aunty Chokes” by her devoted fans and followers. Sex is everywhere online but every so often you come across someone who isn’t just flashing the masses for attention. CNG has lived a life that is made for the big screen. Her candor and transparency has attracted many to seek her advice for issues too uncomfortable for others to hear.

So today things get a little NSFW as I sit down with the infamous ChokesNGags.

*****

First off, thanks for taking the time out to have this conversation. Let’s dive right into things. How/Why/When did you start the ChokesNGags online persona?

Back around 2011 when I was living in south Philly bored out of my skull. One of my friends was always on Tumblr; there’s some pretty entertaining shit on there, so he helped me set up my own account. He gave me a few follow recommendations and I kinda took it from there. The lack of censorship and filter on sexual content was really intriguing. Like, you mean I can talk about getting cum in my nose AND see around the way girls busting it wide open without risk of being deactivated or anything? NOICE. I discovered a judgement free platform so I took advantage of it. It really just started as a bunch of endless posts about needing dick and going on about the dick I just got. People seemed pretty interested so I talked about my ‘adventures’ more and more. I think the readers assumed I could help because I spoke of similar situations. Like, what else does she know?? The questions just started coming in like crazy. I never said “hey I think I’ll start a sex & relationship advice blog”…..It honestly just….happened. I’ve always wanted to help people, particularly young, black women and girls; so I just happened to stumble upon exactly what I wanted to do.

Philly so you’re originally an East Coast girl but you’re in Cali now. What caused the relocation out west and how do you like it?

Yup, Jersey girl here. I was between jobs in Philly and the guy I was dating at the time offered to help me out. He had the pull to get me a job in any major city and assist with the move. I considered NYC but it was too safe and close to home. Most of my family is in NY. This was a kick ass opportunity so I wanted to take full advantage of it. After a lot of thinking I said fuck it, I’ll move to LA. Less than 2 weeks later I landed in LA and hit the ground running. I love it here. It’s a tough city to survive in, that’s for sure, but I don’t plan to leave anytime soon. I’m far away from things that I once knew and I like that.

Why Would My Husband Unfriend Me on Facebook?

Why Would My Husband Unfriend Me on Facebook?

unfriendFB

I was recently presented with an interesting question. A reader wanted to know why her husband would unfriend her on Facebook. I had to take a moment to process this. It’s actually much more complex than it initially sounds. This could range from being a simple non-issue to being a true problem. With the limited details I have let me give you the best possible explanation for this act from both the positive and negative view points.

Let’s look at the negative possibilities first because realistically that is most likely what is running through your head.

Why would a man unfriend his wife on Facebook?
That could be a means to filter you out of his communications and interactions with other people. Generally speaking the presence of a wife on your social network shuts down a lot of the outside chatter you’re going to have with those of the opposite sex. If this man’s motives are not in the right place then this is either a means to engage with new people going forward or to hide something that may have been already happening.

Then we have the positive side of the coin. Depending upon the type of online interactions you have this may be a means of keeping people out of your business. Also, I’m assuming you live with your husband. You wake up together, go about your business and end the day together. There’s nothing wrong with allowing a degree of space between you. Marriage doesn’t make you Siamese twins. I personally keep my love off the Internets so I get this type of view-point.

In the end, the unfriending clearly has a motive behind it. Discovering if it’s sinister or protective is on you to find out by discussing it with your partner. Clearly you were friends on FB prior so ask what your husband’s view of Facebook is now that you are married. Stop and think on his activity and behavior during the course of your relationship. Has he given you reason to be suspicious of him or has he always been a private person? There’s definitely reason to check the status of things. I want to believe that if you guys are married that your relationship is in a good place. Many of today’s top mainstream Hip Hop artists speak frequently of “side chicks” and this mentality worries many ladies, but please remember, social media doesn’t end relationships. Social media simply magnifies what is already there.

Has Posting Pictures Online Become Too Complicated???

Has Posting Pictures Online Become Too Complicated???

postingtoohard

The power of social media to sway what we think and how we react has always amazed me. It takes the idea that people believe anything they see on TV and expands it to a space where the content is publicly generated and always flowing. It’s no longer confined to the evening news or Hollywood entertainment shows. From Facebook to Twitter, Instagram to Snapchat we share, like and analyze everything we see. We give lasting power to moments snatched out of a few seconds in time. Most often this leads to the assumption of relationship activity between people.

When you are accustomed to seeing folk detail and broadcast so many aspect of life you cant help but try to fill in the blanks yourself. You see images in the gym regularly leads you to think things, you see images in sexy revealing outfits it makes you think things and if you see pictures of people socializing with any regularity or at certain types of functions you think things.

We’ve all done it. I know I have. “I don’t know what they’re doing but they clearly enjoy each others company.” It could be harmless or it could be the case of hiding in the open. Privacy is a touchy digital thing when so many present their relationships as open books.

In any case the question remains, “Do you think posting pictures online has become too complicated?” Do you ever do what the folk in the video above do before posting? To post or not to post? Crop? Don’t crop? Tag? Share the Location?

Decisions, decisions. Life used to be so much simpler….

Are Secret’s Allowable If They Only Happen Online?

Are Secret’s Allowable If They Only Happen Online?

Online flirt

As social media extends its reach into more areas of our lives it would seem that the rules of engagement for many people change and mutate to fit their digital activity. I came across a curious conversation recently while on Facebook. As the Blizzard of 2016 had folks confined to their homes many banged the keys across the Internets to pass the time. Since there is a lack of physical interaction many think flirtations are harmless as long as they are made while online.

Essentially the statement that was made and supported by many is that “acting out online (in secret) is nothing serious. Let me provide more context. “Acting out” in this sense meant having online interactions of sexual nature with people outside of your personal relationship.  This could be discussion explicit fantasies, exchanging revealing imagery, etc, etc…. The only thing is that there is no physical interaction occurring. This brings me back to the main question. Is this type of behavior cool with you? Is it a general belief that secret online activity falls outside the realm of “cheating”?

For a long time I’ve held the belief that social media has created an odd mentality of absolute justification vs earnest acceptance of responsibility. Our technology plays a big role in fueling our “I can do whatever I want” mentality. As long as you can justify your actions to yourself, the ramifications to others are to be excused.

I hold no judgement. I’ve encountered a number of different lifestyles that differ from how I would conduct a relationship so I know it’s not a one size fits all matter. Yet, I cant help but feel that no one pursuing something of substance with a partner would take kindly to finding out that their significant other is having that level of connection with people outside of the their partnership.

Generally folk keep secrets because they know the other party involved wouldn’t approve of the actions. We just seem to think that connection via Wifi isn’t as “real” as the face to face real thing. Is it?
