SAMURAI RIDES: MOVING DAY W/ THE 2017 TOYOTA 4RUNNER
Samurai Rides is back! This is the moving edition as I officially take my act from the Empire State to the City of Brotherly Love. For the past two years, I’ve been on the move up and down the East Coast through the tri-state area most recently between New York and Philadelphia as I entered fatherhood. I now prepare to begin another chapter in my life as I finally locked in a new residence in the state of Philadelphia. The good people at Toyota with the 2017 4Runner off-road premium helped play a major part in helping me get situated in my new home.
The 4Runner, if I was to sum it up in a few words is “old school”. To some, that’s a bad thing but to me, it represents a sense of familiarity that I have experienced behind the wheel in quite a while. SUVs have undergone major changes in the past decade. They’ve become a little smaller, a little sleeker, a little more agile and nimble on the road. They’ve taken many hints from their smaller sedan cousins and in many cases abandoned the bigger bulkier gas-guzzling format that they had not too long ago.
The 4Runner is a vehicle specialized for those carrying a great deal of cargo and those who really work in that off-road life. I’m talking about dealing with rocks, mud, and uneven natural terrain. Loaded with furniture, appliances, clothes, and electronics the 4Runner was perfect for what I needed to move into my new place. Navigating roads from New York to Philadelphia while maintaining the safety and integrity of my son and my valuables was the true test of this truck and it passed with flying colors.
The 4runners design is very straightforward very to the point. It’s not one of those Vehicles designed after sports cars or luxury cars. It’s definitely a functional SUV. I was perfectly fine with this to be honest with you. For some rides you want that sleek aggressive appearance, it just goes with the overall feel and functionality of the car. In the case of the 4Runner I knew exactly what I wanted and that’s exactly what I got. I got durability, strength, loading ability and solid riding.
Here are a few of the stand out features you’ll get and some images of the 4Runner!
- 4 doors, 5 passengers, four-wheel drive; 17/20 mpg city/hwy (est)
- 4.0-liter V-6 engine; 270 hp, 278 lb-ft; 5-speed automatic transmission
- Heated Front Bucket Seats
- Power Rear Windows and Fixed 3rd Row Windows
- Entune Selective Service Internet Access
- Leather/Metal-Look Steering Wheel
- 5 12V DC Power Outlets
- Day-Night Rearview Mirror
- Driver And Passenger Visor Vanity Mirrors w/Driver And Passenger Illumination
As you can see I had no shortage of stuff to load up in the 4Runner but I was well equipped for my move.
A large part of my auto reviews are sedans, crossovers, and smaller SUV so the 4Runner was a welcome return to my former truck driving days. I think those looking for some off-road muscle will be very pleased with what Toyota has to offer with the 4Runner Off-Road Premium edition!
