What matters most in this world? Who matters most? We often find ourselves in situations where our personal priorities trump our general sensibilities. Just how far would you go for your loved ones?
Well said. Pulled from the modern classic “Breaking Bad’, we get a reminder, no a proclamation of what a man does. A man provides no how others may feel about him. That core responsibility to family is so set in stone that gives both of Gustavo and Walter the internal green light to do deplorable things in the pursuit of success.
Have you ever found yourself in such a place? Have you been forced to put your wants to the side for the greater good? Your perspective changes when others are depending on you. I’ve prided myself on being a guardian. Providing safety and reassurance to my people has long since been my lot in life but there is more. The next stage is approaching and I’m not sure what it will bring.
Yesterday in Loreto, Mexico I took part in a morning Sun salutation. This spiritual activity serves as a connection session for personal, spiritual and natural energies. Asking for strength and guidance in the trials ahead. I’ve always said that my only definition to success was to make my people, primarily my parents proud. Life doesn’t just roll out a simple path for you to follow to achieve success. More often than not you will be broken down on a few occasions before you reach your goal.
I believe this breakdown is required. This is the process by which you focus your vision and finally see what and who truly matters. You may very well end up turning off the same people whose opinions were once so important to you and the funniest part is that you will gladly accept that loss for you new-found clarity and purpose.
I’m searching for that with a relative idea of where it is but limited time to get things right. In the end you do what you most even if you go unappreciated for it. A man provides.
Are Secret’s Allowable If They Only Happen Online?
As social media extends its reach into more areas of our lives it would seem that the rules of engagement for many people change and mutate to fit their digital activity. I came across a curious conversation recently while on Facebook. As the Blizzard of 2016 had folks confined to their homes many banged the keys across the Internets to pass the time. Since there is a lack of physical interaction many think flirtations are harmless as long as they are made while online.
Essentially the statement that was made and supported by many is that “acting out online (in secret) is nothing serious. Let me provide more context. “Acting out” in this sense meant having online interactions of sexual nature with people outside of your personal relationship. This could be discussion explicit fantasies, exchanging revealing imagery, etc, etc…. The only thing is that there is no physical interaction occurring. This brings me back to the main question. Is this type of behavior cool with you? Is it a general belief that secret online activity falls outside the realm of “cheating”?
For a long time I’ve held the belief that social media has created an odd mentality of absolute justification vs earnest acceptance of responsibility. Our technology plays a big role in fueling our “I can do whatever I want” mentality. As long as you can justify your actions to yourself, the ramifications to others are to be excused.
I hold no judgement. I’ve encountered a number of different lifestyles that differ from how I would conduct a relationship so I know it’s not a one size fits all matter. Yet, I cant help but feel that no one pursuing something of substance with a partner would take kindly to finding out that their significant other is having that level of connection with people outside of the their partnership.
Generally folk keep secrets because they know the other party involved wouldn’t approve of the actions. We just seem to think that connection via Wifi isn’t as “real” as the face to face real thing. Is it?
Samurai Rides: Warm Winter Riding With the 2016 Hyundai Tucson #DriveHyundai
One of the highlights of #Samurai Rides from 2015 was the private hands on review day Hyundai arranged to launch the 2016 Tucson. I absolutely loved this ride. The only downside was that I was limited to a single business day to put the new SUV through its paces. Fortunately I got my wish to put some extended miles on the Tucson to get 2016 rolling.
My first time with the Tucson put me behind the wheel of their high-end Limited model which included the parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, lane detection and HID headlights among other quality features.
This time around we scaled it back to give the standard edition a shot. Obviously there are a few less bells and whistles but it handled just a smoothly on the road. From Westchester to Manhattan the streets of NYC weren’t an issue to navigate. Then upon hearing the news of the recently opened AmalgamPhilly Comic & Coffeeshop I decided to take a trip to the City of Brotherly Love. Equipped with a multi speaker surround sound system for my Sirius XM/HD radio/MP3 pleasure it was a sweet 2 hour commute into Pennsylvania.
You’re looking at a difference of roughly $5000 from Standard to Limited with the majority of the differences being cosmetic. You do lose Hyundai’s Blue Link service so if that is something you need then an upgrade to Limited edition is need. Besides that you’re in for a great experience across the broad.
After another Martin Luther King Jr day I find myself wondering just what the good Dr would have to say if he saw the world as is. Would he shine with pride at our accomplishments or shudder in horror at the similarities of our world to the one he lived in. I honestly guess it would be a little of both.
Have we become a people-oriented society yet? Maybe we you’re talking about the top 1%. Like I say often, the United States is a casino. It’s a big roll of the die in trying to hit it big and cash out without taking too much loss. Martin Luther King Jr was one of those people who tried to set things right. He didn’t care for the casino rules and made massive waves to change things. We all know how that ended.
I asked myself earlier if I was blinded as a youth to some of America’s hypocrisy or has it recently become much more blatant. You really have to work to keep the bright spots in life in perspective while getting bombarded with negative news.
King preached of hope and dreams for a better tomorrow and while I do think things are better, I don’t know if can say they’re great. No, I don’t think I can say that. I can only press on and do what I can in my way hoping that there’s a reason for all this.
Samurai Rides: Happy New Year With The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid #DriveHyundai
Just like that 2016 is here and with comes new travels and adventures. I found myself on the streets of Harlem as the ball dropping closing 2015. My partner on the road was Hyundai’s 2016 Sonata Hybrid Limited Edition. This was a great ride and I enjoyed the ability to follow up with another version of this model. In late 2014 I reviewed the 2015 Sonata and I quickly noticed some changes in this years Edition.
Off top there are some design changes I noticed like the wider grill front, larger wheels and slight longer sleeker body design. The interior received a literal face lift as the as the touch screen display is now 7 inches and includes the rearview camera absent from late years model. Also available is a beautiful panoramic sunroof. With the recent warm winter weather it was ideal for letting the light in while on the road. On the flip side the rear seat come with pull down window shades in case you want a degree of privacy.

In addition to that the Android Auto system that syncs your smartphone to the car to cut distraction is available with updated software available via Hyundai’s home site. Keeping on the topic of technology, the simultaneous functioning of the gas engine and electric battery felt so smooth on the road I actually forgot it was a Hybrid for the first couple days.
I really like the changes the Hyundai has been with the 2016 Sonata and with a price tag hovering around $21K you get a lot for that dollar. Quality and efficiency are areas that Hyundai has impressed me with at a consistent rate over the last year and this Hybrid is no exception. You won’t be disappointed.
