Tribeca Film Festival – As I AM: The Life and Times of DJ AM
Among the films I viewed in during the Tribeca Film Fest one that really stuck with me was the introspective look into the life of a groundbreaking individual within music, media and entertainment . Considering the destructive elements of his up bringing, Adam Goldstein, who would come to be better known as DJ AM would beat the odds to reach remarkable heights. This documentary details his battles with depression and substance abuse from his youth up to his untimely demise.
Yet, what really grabbed me about this documentary is that it gives equal insight into just how pivotal DJ AM was in the establishment of so many of the current day Industry staples. He was the original “Celebrity DJ”, he introduced the Mash-Up style that allowed him to cross over into all genres but still stay true to the Hip Hop roots that birthed his career.
You cant help but truly feel the loss when this film ends after getting a real front row seat to the demons this man was battling and at times overcame. I hope that when this hits mainstream circulation you all get a chance to check this out.
ASK A BLACK MAN SEASON 3 #SEX EPISODE – [SAMURAI EXTENSION]
Things are getting hotter as the topic turns to #sex this week on #AskABlackMan. The crew is talking turns on, turn offs, control and a lot more. I know everyone has tons of things to say on this topic. How often do you get to sit in on a group of guys talking about sex? Will it be what you think it would be?
Friend. What is that to you? How do you define it? Is it the same today as it was yesterday? Has it become better or perhaps its gotten worse? In many ways I feel it has simply gotten more real.
Friendship is no longer sealed by who you have drinks and hit the club with. Life tests friendships in many ways and it’s rarely in a manner that is easily digestible for us. We have our rules that we claim to stand for. Many of us have codes that we live by but these all get put to the fire at some point. Friendship at its core is about what you give to another and what they give to you in a mutual relationship that improves both of your lives. That give and take will fluctuate over time but it should still be a balance. Should be, but I understand that will often not be the case.
Through trial and much error I have learned that the human concern for self can and will trump what a friendship should be. That is what adulthood has shown me. Logic is relative. Respect is applied when it is in people’s best interest. This sounds horrible but it is a reality I’ve excepted. The truth is that the company I keep, the people I associate with are at an age where who and what they are is pretty much set. We all grow and evolve but the true core of people is pretty much set. That means that when a difference of perspectives occurs the likelihood of changing their view is low. This is why I don’t attempt to change minds. If our core beliefs really don’t link up at this point then that’s fine. That is the way it must be.
This is what has resulted in the end of friendships as I know them. No one likes to admit error. In the best situations when we realize we’re wrong we should own it and apologize to the people we’ve hurt because that’s what adults do. Unfortunately many aim to avoid this. Instead we create our own rationales for what is happening around us. I accept that too. All I look to do now is make sure the error is identified and acknowledged. If you want to lie to yourself and others to create a perception of “being right” go ahead but YOU AND ME will know what the truth is. What others do after that point is on them. If the ability to show humility for the sake of our friendship isn’t the natural course of action then it is what it is we were never truly friends to begin with.
I’ve got about a 1/2 dozen instances in the past month or so that fall into this category and a such I also have to look at the role I’ve played in this friendships going the way they have. I see patterns in myself that I need to change to avoid creating the sense of entitlement undeserving people have felt.
While this all sounds like doom and gloom the truth is I am in great spirits because as god clears my plate of excess I am being shown the power of true love, friendship and support. When folk act out of character towards me my feelings are no different than many others. I often want to lash back out at them but I always pause. The energy to get revenge is rarely worth it. I have too many great people in my life that ACTIVELY show they care to let the malcontents get the spotlight.
I feel that one of the greatest elements of living life is how you treat other people. I’m far from perfect but I can sleep well knowing what I’ve done and how I conduct my self. Thank you to the people who have made the decision to have me in their life. To those that feel they are better off sans Jason, I hope it was worth it. Sleep well.

Brotherly Love Brings Classic Street Tale From The Heart of Philly
At The AMC Magic Johnson in Harlem, a select audience of media and artists joined friends and family of the cast for the advanced screening of Flavor Unit’s Brotherly Love. Starring Keke Palmer, Cory Hardrict, Macy Gray and more, the coming of youth film is set in Philadelphia. It tells the tell of a family being held together by the determination of a protective older brother who’s willing to do anything to get his family out.
I’ve always felt that the goal of a film is connection. If a story can pull you into a space where you feel for the characters than it is a success. When you cheer the wins and feel low at their losses then the story has hit its mark. Brotherly Love does this in painting a picture that many can relate to.
Brotherly Love is debuting this Friday April 24th and as an indie film I honestly think it will be worth your time and money to go out and support this project.
National Movie Listing After the Jump. Check out where you can go to see Brotherly Love!!!!!!
Marvel Brings Their Animated Touch to Tribeca Film Fest with ESPN 1 of 1 Films
Marvel continues to spread its reach over the entertainment world with its ESPN collaboration 1 of 1 Origins & Genesis. Origins represents the background tales of a number of sports stars set on a comic styled still motion animation. Genesis extends this concept into a lengthier discussion of the similarities between sports stars and the characters within the world of comic books.
The topic of world saving superheroes and pro level athletes could easily dive into a much deeper discussion on the idea of hero/celeb worship which is a notorious thing within our American culture. but ESPN & Marvel keep it light and create a playful inspiring image that I think most people can take something away from.
Marvel & ESPN Films Present: 1 of 1 – Origins – Colin Kaepernick, directed by Eric Drath. (USA) – World Premiere. If you know football, you know one of its biggest stars, QB Colin Kaepernick. Yet, it was on the baseball diamond that a young Colin would be forever changed. At 12, he was already a stand-out athlete, head and shoulders over his peers in both size and skill. But on one fateful day, the hits were not coming, his fielding was off and his attitude was bad. His father would see this opportunity as a moment to help redirect Colin’s life and forever alter his destiny. – Via LadyBloggSays.Com

I can’t lie. I older I get the more I pay added attention to the products I use for my body. I’ve mentioned soaps before and I was just put on to something new from one of my favorites. A quick ride to my nearest Walmart introduced me the newest addition to my shower routine. Let’s say #MySignatureMove for the post workout shower will be Irish Spring’s new Signature Body Wash & Bar Soaps.
I always found it funny that Irish Spring really held true to the commercials I’ve seen all throughout my life. It’s honestly the scent that has kept me buying over the years. Refreshing is definitely the word I’d use to describe a shower with these new soaps. I had to put them to the test after my upper body routine at the gym. Yes it was the post weight training stink vs the tried and true cleansing power of Irish Spring and its authentic ingredients.
After years of using Irish Spring I’ve got to say this was a great feeling. Both the body wash and soap left me feeling clean without any oily after feeling. Plus there was no dried out feeling afterwards. These Signature products are batting 1.000 with me and I’m going to have to get enough of this for home as well as on the road. For the right price I’m a guy that will ride a bus 20+ hrs to get somewhere so please believe I need quality body wash on deck.
The bar soaps also come in two types Hydrating and Exfoliating Scrub. I love variety and you’ll enjoy your Spring and Summer showers that much more with Irish Spring’s new Signature soaps.
For an added bonus “Purchase one of the new Irish Spring Signature products and get $5 off a VUDU purchase! Take a picture of your receipt and then go to http://cbi.as/3boj to upload your receipt. Next step, enjoy watching!”
Spike Lee Debuts “The Greatest Catch Ever” @ Tribeca Film Fest This Sunday
During Super Bowl XLII , the Giants met with the New England Patriots who were undefeated going into the NFL finale. With two minutes left in the game, just when it looked like Giants Quarterback Eli Manning would go down, he spotted David Tyree, a veteran special teams player, down the field and went deep, setting up one of the most renowned plays in football history.
The New York Giant’s nation is very familiar with the image above and this weekend legendary director Spike Lee is planning to bring back that feeling of triumph as his short film “The Greatest Catch Ever” takes a deeper look into the Superbowl winning play that clinched the championship and defeated their rivals from New England the Patriots.
After the screening, Spike Lee, Chris Snee, Plaxico Burress and David Tyree will discuss the film, the play it self and more with ESPN’s NFL reporter Michael Smith.
I’ll be on the scene with live tweets and imagery from the debut event!!!
