Prime Dining for a 914 Valentines Day

Prime Dining for a 914 Valentines Day

#‎Dinner4Valentines‬

Time is flying and before you know it Feb 14th will be upon us. For some it’s another day and for others it’s a day marked for the expression of love and appreciation between family, friends and lovers. Whatever meaning the day holds for you it’s never a bad thing to treat someone who matters to you to an enjoyable dinner. As a life long Westchester resident, born and raised in New Rochelle, NY I want to share a few of my favorite restaurants both in New Rochelle and nearby 914 areas.

Happy Dining as I take a page from Chris Rock and give the Social Media Samurai Top 5!!!! (In no particular order)

#1 El Tio

cbias Vday food0000

Located directly across the street from the family entertainment hub that is New Roc City, El Tio is my favorite Mexican restaurant in New Rochelle. They’re not too pricey and they have a wide array of options so there’s something for everyone. I’m a fan of the fried streak strips that they marinate in lime juice. (Fajitas en Cecina) Their drink menu is pretty lengthy too so you know I’m happy when looking for something to wash the steak down. If you’re going the movie and dinner route for Valentines day I’d highly recommend El Tio.

#2 Coromandel

cbias Vday food00000

Around the corner from the Avalon on the Sound, Coromandel serves up some of the best Indian cuisine I’ve ever had. With a soft dimly lit interior it can definitely set the mood for a nice private evening.  In all honestly I drove by this gem for a while before finally being put on to it. Since then I’ve enjoyed a number of the lamb dishes they offer. Depending on what you have on deck for the day they also have a lunch buffet. Just letting you know that you have options. They’re not open very late with a closing time of 10:30 pm Friday & Saturday so reservations are a must if this is your Valentine’s Day destination.

#3 Ripe

cbias Vday food000

This takes us out of New Rochelle and a 15 min drive next door to Mt Vernon and it’s more than worth it. Ripe is a critically acclaimed Jamaican Restaurant with the best jerk meals you can find outside of your mothers own island cooking. They’ve been featured by the likes of CBS, ABC, Food Network and the New York Times. Let me tell you they don’t made to stand on media hype. This food is delicious and the legendary Rum Punch has even forced me to slow down which is no small feat. The Jerk Rib Eye which I rarely finish in one sitting is my favorite. They also serve up a number of great seafood dishes.

#4 Haiku Asian Bistro

Now if you hop on the 95 and head north about 15-20mins and get off on Mamaraneck ave you can take you date to Haiku Asian Bistro. It’s a very Trendy set up with great Japanese and East Asian dishes. The bar options are solid and for a change of pace you can dive into some saki drink specials sold by the bottle.

#5 Copacabana Churrascaria

cbias Vday food999
Rounding out my top 5 is Copacabana Churrascaria in Portchester. Again it’s a quick ride north from New Rochelle on the 95. If you and your partner are some meat loving individuals then you will be in heaven with the continuous servings of Brazilian cooked meats. Pace yourself because it can be a little overwhelming if you dive in too crazy. The Pork sausage, Prime Rib & Steak are a must. You can also spice things up at the open salad bar which includes a deep sushi selection.

Top 5! Top 5! I’m hoping that something on this post catches your eye and you take time to try a few of these 914 restaurants out AND there will be more coming for the entire nation in a few days 😉

Samurai Rides: Happy New Year with The Mazda CX-9

Samurai Rides: Happy New Year with The Mazda CX-9

#SamuraiRides

As I rolled out of 2014 and into 2015 I did it in style with the new Mazda CX-9. This was my first time behind the wheel of a Mazda vehicle and I have to say they made quite the impression on me. When the suburban roads of Westchester to the city streets of NYC the CX-9 handles perfectly. Again I was able to enjoy a spacious interior within a deceptively sleek and streamlined body type.

#SamuraiRides

New York’s winter is in full swing so the heated seats and individual climate controls for the front passengers was tested early and often. This just added to the comfort as I made my way to see family and friends to usher in the new year. The CX-9 also held its own getting me through the first snow day of the snow. It wasn’t blizzard level snowfall but it was enough to require added care on the road. Thankfully the road presented no issue for the CX-9’s handling and maneuverability.

‘The Wizard of Watts’ – Black Dynamite Musical About Police Brutality [Trailer]

‘The Wizard of Watts’ – Black Dynamite Musical About Police Brutality [Trailer]

Black Dynamite

Adult Swim has never had a problem with expressing views and sensitive matter. In its animated history the previous seasons of Aaron McGruder’s Boondocks ruffled as many feathers as a cartoon ever could. Now we get ready for the airing of “The Wizard of Watts”, an animated musical via Black Dynamite. BD is the animated adaptation of the movie of the same name from 2009. This will be the finale of its 2nd season and it’s shaping up to be a big one.

The truth is that the concept of the episode came about 2 years ago, but before it could become a finished production the events of Ferguson, MO took place and the climate changed for what this type of content would represent. As the issue of police brutality holds center stage nationwide it will be interesting to see what the reaction will be to this.

Here’s the Trailer!!

Here’s a snippet from a New York Times piece on the episode slated to air this Saturday night.

The primary villain in the Magical Land of Oz-Watts, where the story takes place, is a vicious pig clad in riot gear. Water does not neutralize this Oz villain; instead this baddie gets melted with a camcorder. “Oh, no! Not an irrefutable visual record of my illegal actions!” the anthropomorphized pig wails as he turns to mush at the musical’s climax.

Even Carl Jones, the director of “The Wizard of Watts” and one of its writers, was surprised at hitting such a cultural bull’s-eye.

“I take pride in tackling things with my gloves off, but animation takes such a long time to produce that you usually don’t end up being all that current,” he said.

You can view the entire NYT piece here.

Adult Playtime – You Down For Whatever???

Adult Playtime – You Down For Whatever???

tumblr_naar98mHEv1sa3a87o1_250

A few days ago on Twitter I saw an exchange taking place around an interesting topic. Here is the background info. A woman stand that during the course of a day if she saw a woman who was attractive and especially “blessed” in the lower regions. which she isn’t, she’d take a picture of her and send it to her guy. This sparked 2 sides of debate. One side related this to a couple that can share mutual attractions i.e watching adult content together and the other side spoke to the idea that send images of other women to your man to look at is odd and damaging to his attraction to you.

This got me to thinking. Things like this weren’t happening when I was younger. Lets ignore the fact that the technology wasn’t there for capturing and sending media like that but women just weren’t into that, at least not so openly. There was a 1 on 1 aspect of relationships that today seem much, much more out there. I still remember when the subject of porn got a funny look from women. Now you ask them about XXX material and they have their own favorite movies, bookmarked sites and all that. Everyone seems down for EVERYTHING today. Is that good? Is that bed? I guess I fall somewhere in the middle. Everyone and every relationship is different. I actually like a woman who expresses a dislike for some things. We can enjoy adult things together without you cosigning the nastiest things on the planet. You don’t have to be down for everything imaginable to be down for me.

Again that’s just my take. What do you think about this? Do you agree that the accept of adult material has expanded to a more open space in relationships? Is that something you like? How do you mutual enjoy these types of things with a partner?

Nomadness Creator Evita Robinson Announces #NMDN Conference

Nomadness Creator Evita Robinson Announces #NMDN Conference

Nomadness

For the past 3+ years there’s been a force bubbling on these Internets within the often over looked Urban Travel community. The name Nomadness has quickly come up as representative to an exclusive and close-knit collective of travel professionals, entrepreneurs and nomadic creatives under the watch of Ms Evita Robinson.  As a member and overseeing component of Nomadness I’ve seen first hand the growth and reach of this community and it comes as no shock to me that now the general public is starting to catch on.

Nomadness

This past Sunday by way of Television on Arise TV and Internet via The Daily Beast, Evita Robinson dropped the official announcement of the #NMDN Conference 2015. Evita describes #NMDN, the Nomadness ALTERnative Travel Conference, as a product of necessity. The “3 time expat” shares the frustration of many within the Urban Travel world that current travel events and conferences lack a serious level of diversity in regards to gender, ethnicity, age and culture. Similarly to how she gave birth to Nomadness to fill a gaping hole in her world so too does #NMDN rise up to provide a unique platform to those that are true embodiments of the Travel lifestyle. #NMDN will be a home to those that exist out of the box that is mainstream society’s view of what a traveler is.

While details are limited for now, in an exclusive message to the Tribe Evita did mention that the aim is for #NMDN to coincide with Nomadness Tribe Anniversary Weekend which is the final weekend of Sept. Those that have attended Tribe functions or seen events that Evita has spoken at know there is an unconventional element to the way things are done. It’s made to be expressive, loud and fun. It’s the polar opposite to the usual conservative “business class” environments that often are the norm for conferences. You can expect #NMDN to have a flair and an energy representative of the Urban Hip Hop culture that Nomadness was spawned from.

Nomadness

Stay tuned to the Nomadness social media accounts @NomadnessTribe on IG & Twitter. Also subscribe to NMDNconference.com to be first to get the official info on this game changing event.
